MSC Cruises will temporarily close its private destination in the Bahamas, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, in May and April of 2024 to make updates to the island.

The cruise line shared the following statement in regards to the temporary closure:

“Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve will be temporarily closed to MSC Cruises guests from April 7 to May 22, 2024 in order to make necessary guest experience enhancements and support the island’s future growth plans. We are in contact with impacted guests and travel advisors to share updated itineraries and travel options.”

The island’s six-week closure will impact scheduled itineraries on MSC Seashore, MSC Divina, MSC Seascape, and MSC Meraviglia. Affected guests will be notified regarding alternative itinerary plans.

At this time, MSC Cruises has not specified what updates and enhancements will be done to Ocean Cay. The two-mile island, set just south of Bimini, first opened to guests in November 2021. It offers seven distinct pristine beach areas, with excursion offerings like kayaking, snorkeling, catamaran sailings, and jet ski rentals. Ocean Cay is also home to 10 beach bars, with eateries including a food court, an ice cream bar, and beach shack food trucks. MSC Cruises’ upcoming new ship MSC World America is slated to make port stops at Ocean Cay in Spring 2025.

We will continue to share updates from MSC Cruises on Ocean Cay’s closure as soon as they become available.
