Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas is one step closer to its 2024 debut! The groundbreaking Icon Class ship successfully sailed the open ocean for the very first time after completing its first sea trials in Finland.

Earlier this week, the ship left the Meyer Turku shipyard for multiday sea trials. More than 450 specialists spent four days conducting critical preliminary tests on the ship’s technical areas, including the main engines, bow and propellers, noise/vibration levels, hull, lifeboats, and thrusters. These tests were done in preparation for Icon of the Sea’s second set of sea trials that will occur later this year.

To mark the important construction milestone, Royal Caribbean shared new photos of Icon of the Seas going out and returning from the sea trials in Turku, Finland.

Icon of the Seas will launch on January 27, 2024. The highly anticipated ship is the first of the cruise line’s Icon Class of vessels and will offer several industry firsts and returning Royal Caribbean guest-favorite activities and venues. The ship will homeport from PortMiami, sailing 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries through 2025.
