Icon of the Seas Reaches Construction Milestone
Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas is one step closer to making its passenger debut! Last week, the world’s largest cruise ship marked an important construction milestone at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland.
Icon of the Seas was officially floated out from the dry dock where it has been under construction for the past eight months. In this stage of the vessel’s construction, the ship’s dry dock was filled with water overnight. Following this process, the Icon of the Seas was moved to an outfitting dock where it will stay until all construction is complete.
The highly anticipated Icon of the Seas is the first of the cruise line’s new ‘Icon’ class of vessels. The ship will offer a number of industry firsts, complete with a number of offerings for all types of travelers.
In October, Royal Caribbean shared its first look at the lineup of onboard amenities. Icon of the Seas will feature eight distinct neighborhoods, five of which are new experiences and three returning favorites. According to the cruise line, the ship will offer the “perfect getaway for adults and parents, kids and grandparents alike.”
Previously announced neighborhoods include Thrill Island, home to a number of adrenaline-pumping thrilled, Chill Island, and the luxurious four-level Suite Neighborhood.
Icon of the Seas will make its official debut in January 2024. The vessel will sail year-round, 7-night Eastern and Western Caribbean vacations from Miami, with all cruises making a stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay. Other port stops include a mix of destinations like Cozumel, Philipsburg, and Basseterre.
