Cruise Line Executive Changes for 2023

Today, Royal Caribbean Group and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings announced several new executive leadership appointments. All new roles announced will be effective January 1, 2023. 

Following are the announcements made by the cruise companies. 

Royal Caribean Group

Royal Caribbean Group (Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, and Silversea Cruises) has appointed Silversea Cruises President and CEO Roberto Martinoli to assume the role of senior advisor to Royal Caribbean Group President and CEO Jason Liberty. Barbara Muckermann, currently Chief Commercial Officer, will become Silversea’s next president and CEO, and will join Royal Caribbean Group’s Executive Committee.

“Roberto has built Silversea Cruises into the category leader that it is today, 11 ships strong with more on the way,” said Jason Liberty, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group. “He is one of the most innovative and knowledgeable leaders in the maritime industry. As senior advisor, Roberto will continue to provide strategic guidance that further cements Royal Caribbean Group’s status as a leader in the travel and hospitality industry. Barbara is the ideal executive to succeed Roberto. Her global perspective and team-first leadership style are a recipe for success for both the Silversea Cruises brand and Royal Caribbean Group.”

Roberto Martinoli has been a part of Silversea’s leadership since 2016. The cruise line’s fleet has grown to include 11 ships. He has helped to facilitate the 2023 debut of  Silver Nova, the first hybrid luxury cruise ship, and led the acquisition in 2022 of expedition vessel Silver Endeavour.  

Barbara Muckermann has worked in the travel and hospitality industry for over 25 years. 

In her current post as Silversea Cruises’ Chief Commercial Officer, she oversees sales, marketing, revenue management, guest relations, strategic communications, and brand product strategy. Muckerman becomes the second woman to lead one of Royal Caribbean Group’s three wholly-owned brands. She will oversee all of Silversea’s employees and crew, and will report to Jason Liberty.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises) has announced these new executive appointments for two of its brands. 

Andrea DeMarco, current Chief Sales and Marketing Officer for Regent Seven Seas Cruises, will be President of Regent Seven Seas Cruises, succeeding Jason Montague. Frank A. Del Rio, current Chief Sales and Marketing Officer for Oceania Cruises, will be named President of Oceania Cruises, succeeding Howard Sherman. According to Norwegian, to ensure a smooth and seamless transition Montague and Sherman will serve as Special Advisors to the Company.

Andrea DeMarco has been in the cruise industry for over 20 years and has served as Chief Sales and Marketing Officer for Regent Seven Seas Cruises since September 2021. Prior to this role, DeMarco was Senior Vice President of Investor Relations, Corporate Communications and Environmental, Social and Governance for Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings where she successfully represented the company to Wall Street since its IPO and earned numerous accolades. 

Industry veteran Frank A. Del Rio started his career in the cruise industry in 2003. Frank has served as Chief Sales and Marketing Officer for Oceania Cruises since March 2022, where he worked side-by-side with Howard Sherman, and as Senior Vice President, Port Destinations and Onboard Revenue from 2015 to April 2017.
