Celebrity Ascent Completes Sea Trials

Celebrity Cruises today announced that its upcoming new ship Celebrity Ascent is one step closer to completion. The ship successfully completed its first open-ocean sailing, a traditional shipbuilding process known as sea trials. 

This portion of the shipbuilding process consists of the ship completing a series of maneuverability skills designed to test its functional and operational capabilities. Celebrity Cruises is proud to report that Celebrity Ascent passed these tests with flying colors! 

Celebrity Ascent Co-captains (and brothers)  Demetrios and Tasos Kafetzis were at the helm to oversee the tests at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in St. Nazaire, France. In addition, nearly 200 crew were onboard to test ship equipment. 

About Celebrity Ascent

Celebrity Ascent is the fourth of Celebrity Cruises’ Edge Series of vessels. Onboard guests will find a number of the design elements and onboard amenities they have grown to love on the first three Edge Series ships - Celebrity Edge, Celebrity Apex, and Celebrity Beyond. Celebrity Ascent will raise the bar with newly designed dining experiences, upgraded entertainment options, and much more. 

The ship will make its official debut this November sailing from Port Everglades. Celebrity will offer a special 4-night Western Caribbean preview voyage on Nov. 22, 2023, and then a special 3-night Bahamas preview getaway on Nov. 26, 2023. 

On December 3, 2023, Celebrity Ascent will sail a 7-night Eastern Caribbean Maiden Voyage to kick off its inaugural Caribbean season of 7-night voyages rotating between Eastern and Western Caribbean ports. Come Summer 2024, Celebrity Ascent will head to the Mediterranean for 9- and 12-night cruises in Italy, Greece, and France.
