Carnival Announces Itinerary Details for Carnival Luminosa’s Inaugural Season
Carnival Cruise Line has officially opened reservations for the inaugural season of new ship Carnival Luminosa. The vessel will make its debut on November 6, 2022, sailing from Brisbane, Australia.
This past June, Carnival announced that Costa Cruises’ ship Costa Luminosa would transfer over to the Carnival Cruise Line fleet. Luminosa is a sister ship to Carnival’s four Spirit-class vessels. At full capacity, the ship can accommodate up to 2,826 guests and 1,050 crew.
Following a rebranding and minor updates, the ship will enter the Carnival fleet in November. The vessel will be outfitted with the line’s new red, white, and blue livery, and a vintage funnel design reminiscent of the funnels on Carnival’s original ships Mardi Gras, Carnivale, and Festivale.
Carnival Luminosa will spend November 2022 through mid-April 2023 offering cruises from Brisbane, Australia. Itineraries will include 3- and 4-day Australia cruises, 6- and 7-day Great Barrier Reef and South Pacific sailings, as well 8- and 11-day voyages to New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji, Papa New Guinea, and New Zealand. To reposition for the 2023 Alaska season, the ship will offer a 30-day Carnival Journeys transpacific voyage.
Starting mid-May Carnival Luminosa will homeport from Seattle for a four-month Alaska schedule. The ship will offer 17 seven-day sailings as well as six- and eight-day sailings to ‘The Last Frontier’. Itineraries will include port stops in Juneau, Ketchikan, Sitka, Skagway, Icy Strait Point, and the scenic cruising of Tracy Arm Fjord.
After the Alaska season is complete next fall, Carnival Luminosa will operate another transpacific voyage back to Brisbane, stopping in exotic, first-time-for-Carnival destinations, including Kushiro, Aomori, Tokyo, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki in Japan, as well as Puerto Princesa, Philippines and Bitung, Indonesia.
“We couldn’t be prouder to welcome Carnival Luminosa to our fleet and to start our highly anticipated sailings from Brisbane followed by unique bucket-list itineraries in Alaska,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. “To truly make Luminosa feel part of the Carnival Cruise Line family, we are adding our beautiful new livery to her hull, of course, and are keeping her throwback funnel design that once adorned some of our most iconic earlier vessels. We’ll be adding some Carnival features in the upcoming dry dock and adapting some existing features to align with Carnival’s casual style, but ultimately, our crew will make everyone feel right at home as soon as they join the ship.”
