January 2015 - 7 Night Eastern Caribbean (Miami Roundtrip) Cruise on Norwegian Getaway

Great Trip

We enjoyed sailing on  the Getaway Ship.  The service was very good, especially by our cabin steward.  She was very friendly and greeted us everytime we saw her which was often!  The cabin was very comfortable and well organized.  The bed was also very comfortable to sleep on.  We enjoyed having a balcony and would recommend this feature.

The food in the main dining rooms (Tropicana, Savor and Taste) was very good.  All 3 have the same menu and they keep the 'classic entrees' the same each day but have 5-6 different entrees each night in addition to the classics.  The appetizers and desserts also change nightly, so there is a good variety. We went to these for breakfast several days as well which is a nice relaxing way to start the day!   The main buffet - The Garden Cafe also offered a broad range for breakfast and lunch (never went there for diner).  We limit our time at buffets because we don't like the crowded feeling.  Norwegian ships are great for the Free Style Cruising as they offer so many dining options.

The ship was also very clean -and there are hand sanitizers everywhere to use throughout the public areas.

There are also plenty of lounge chairs on decks for sunning.  We were also very pleasantly surprised how well they handle 4000 people regarding disembarkment.  It has been 12 years since we cruised and it seems they have actually improved this process despite the fact there are 2x more people!

Overall it was a great trip!

Cruise tips

Nassau, Bahamas

Have also been here several times and almost didn't get off. But it was a cloudy, windy day so we couldn't' really enjoy the ships pool etc. so we got off to see what we could do. We took another tour, but it was in a regular van, we were packed in with 12 people and the sights were nothing to write about. Sadly this island has poverty issues which are all around. The stop at a chocolate factory, was for 10 minutes in the chocoloate store . the next stop was the rum factory, which was the best part of the tour. About 20 minutes - but a very nice place, and they did take us around and tell the history of the factory. The rest of the tour was driving around-. Would really recommend staying on the ship if you have a nice sunny day!

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

Have been here several times so we took a tour of the island (not a ship excursion) and we enjoyed the 2+ hr. tour as it went around the entire island.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

we walked to the town of Phillipsburg and shopped, then taxied to Marigot to see the French side. We felt we must have missed something there---the area we were dropped off at really was your basic tourist trap -with a typical market selling island fare, and a few restaurants. we had asked our waitress if there was another area to see but she said no. so we were not impressed with this area. we then took at taxi to Orient Beach. It was very crowded, and a fair amount of seaweed on the beach. We had expected it to be a prettier beach. Still enjoyed having some beach time!
