We just came down the day before the cruise and stayed at the hotel. Didn't do any excursions.
Allure of the Seas
Usually, people will board early. I would suggest you spend the time you are waiting for your luggage, etc. to explore and figure out, at least a little, about where different places are located and the best route to get to it.
