Good but not great

This was our first cruise and we went to celebrate our 20th anniversary. We had great expectations and for the most part had a great time. This ship is obviously older and much of the decor is outdated, but our room was large enough and always spotless. The walls are very thin and we were awakened many times throughout the trip by late night, very late night partiers. We were fairly satisfied by the food the first couple of days, but it seemed to dwindle towards the end of the cruise. The food selections were not great. There was only one night that we were able to eat from the dining room, this was the night of prime rib and lobster, which was very good. The other nights the selections were not at all appealing. I guess maybe this was fine cuisine, but not any that I have eaten before. I would think they would have simple items to choose from that would appeal to the "steak and potatoes" type. They did have a grill that provided hamburgers and hot dogs, and the 24 hours pizza, but that does get old and the pizza was always cold. Our biggest disappointment was on the 4th day of our 5 day cruise. It seemed as though the ship was more interested in preparing for the next set of cruisers than the people who were on the ship. There was only one food line open for dinner, the selection was not good and they had run out of quite a few things with no plans to restock. The pool area was shut down at 8:00pm on our 4th night so the staff could clean the deck-this was the main area that people travelled through throughout the cruise. So much for any "farewell" party. We had to step overtop of the staff and their vacuums in the hallways. Our wonderful bath robes that we enjoyed throughout the cruise were taken away on the 4th night, I guess so they could be washed for the next group of people. The disembarkation was very unorganized which led to crowds of people standing close to the exit door. The elevators were clogged with people, so everyone was dragging all of their luggage down flights of stairs to get out. The very helpful and attentive staff that we had seen throughout the cruise were not at all helpful when trying to get off the boat. We did enjoy getting off the boat at the ports and exploring. Freeport was not very picturesque, I guess from hurricane damage. Nassau was beautiful and we had a great time on the Blackbeard's stingray excursion. We did meet alot of nice people, including the staff.

Cruise tips

Freeport, Grand Bahama Island

Freeport has obviously had quite a bit of hurricane damage. It was not as beautiful as we had hoped. We probably would have had a better time staying on the boat.

Nassau, Bahamas

Nassau was beautiful. The Blackbeard's stingray excursion was great. The shopping was good, but you have to get used to people of all ages, even very young children, trying to sell you something.
