Review summary

I really enjoyed the river cruise and the Viking experience. The food was delicious and the staff were very supportive.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Very painless. The Viking representative met us at the Budapest airport and within 30 minutes we were on the way to the ship.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We had most of our meals on the Terrace, which was very comfortable. Breakfasts in the main restaurant were fine, just that service was a bit slow.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Besides the nightly cocktails and music, the Game of the Century conducted by Carl was a lot of fun.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Sabine was the piano player every night, and was really fun. We also had a Franconian trio and a classical singer and French horn (I think) player that were good, and the Glass Blowing exhibition was great!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Anthony, Jason, Ruslin, and Catalin did a great job. My cabin steward, Adrian, was also great. My only complaint was that the bar's stocking of whiskey was poor. The had a half bottle of Macallan when we sailed, and didn't have any more after the second night. Pretty much the same with each whiskey.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Yes

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Really small, but enough room to clean up, dress, and sleep.

Ship tip

Actually, it was changed to Gymir at the last minute, but the only advice I would give is to enjoy the ship.

Great port, and we did an excursion in the morning and walked around town in the afternoon. Saw several churches.

Beautiful city. We did excursions in the morning and walked around town in the afternoon. Saw several churches and the palaces. I would like to go back and spend 4-5 days in Vienna.

Our morning excursion was a walk around town, but our afternoon cruise got cancelled due to rough water. Great Bratwurst by the bridge!

Very beautiful old city. Saw several churches, all beautiful and amazingly preserved.

Nuremberg, Germany

We did the World War II tour, and it was very interesting and informative. It was very hot and our tour guide tried very hard to keep us in the shade.

Bamberg, Germany

5 out of 5
Very nice city. Did the walking tour in the morning and enjoyed the smoke beer afterward.

Wurzburg, Germany

4 out of 5
We didn't do an excursion in Wurzburg. Nice city.

4 out of 5
We had a very short stay, but it was nice.

We did the wine tasting in the Mosele Valley. Very nice.

Cologne, Germany

4 out of 5
We did the morning tour and saw the Cathedral. Amazing! We didn't get much time in town for shopping.

Kinderdijk, Netherlands

5 out of 5
Not much to see but the windmills, but they were very interesting.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

3 out of 5
Very dirty city, with a lot of loose trash and very large crowds. Pretty much the worst part of the cruise.

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
Getting off the ship was easy, but it took a long time to get a car to the hotel. It seemed that the transportation was a little disorganized.
