Review summary

Our second Oceania cruise on the Marina and we will do it again. We have booked the Vista for Panama Canal cruise in 1/2025. We may try one of the smaller ships if we find an itinerary that we like. Many thanks for a wonderful adventure to Antartica! We met so many new friends on this trip. South America is no longer on my bucket list. DONE!

Embarkation

It could have been the port not Oceania's fault, but it was quite a mess. We had early boarding preferences by virtue of our cabin, but it was non-existent. Quite a mess waiting to check in at the port, then on to a bus, then waiting in line again in the Lounge onboard to check in and get our room keys. But again, I blame it on the port logistics and the location of the ship relative to the port terminal.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Fabulous! We had eleven dining reservations total in all four specialty restaurants. The buffets were always excellent with food choices and special themed nights.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We only took advantage of the fitness center. We were very impressed with the size and number of treadmills available.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We didn't attend all, but those we did, were very good.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All of the crew were so friendly and happy and helpful. Sidney, our butler, was so patient with my husband's futile efforts to get online with his office.

Ship Quality

This was our second voyage on Marina and it met our expectations. Everything was very accessible and in particular we used the Executive Lounge on 11 every day for our morning coffee. I miss that coffee machine!

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our cabin was very comfortable, clean and the size was perfect. We upgraded from Concierge level on our last cruise and are now spoiled. Only Penthouses from now on! I had only one pet peeve. The sheets on the bed are extremely large and you get tangled up with the excess. I know it looks pretty when made up but I had to rearrange the top sheet every night to sleep.

Ship tip

Book early to get a good cabin! Then book all excursions and dining reservations the first day they are available. We did and it was perfect.

Ports of call

Puerto Montt, Chile

3 out of 5
The Petrohue Falls excursion was a big disappointment. It was a long drive to see what amounted to a raging river with thousands of other visitors.

Puerto Chacabuco, Chile Did not visit port

Castro, Chile was wonderful as a substituted port. I highly recommend this port.

Laguna San Rafael, Chile Did not visit port

Our excursion was cancelled due to bad weather and the lateness in the day. Very disappointing.

Cruise Chilean Fjords

Beautiful landscape.

Punta Arenas, Chile

Magdelena Island and the Penguin Reserve was why we were in Patagonia. An excellent excursion.

Ushuaia, Tierra Del Fuego, Argentina

This port could not accommodate the number of ships in port. There were too many tenders trying to load and unload at one small dock. Our excursion as many others was cancelled. No fault of Oceania, but maybe there's an alternative for the future.

Cruise Drake Passage

Cruise Paradise Harbor, Antarctica

Port Stanley, Falkland Islands

Loved, loved, loved this port. The Bluff Cove excursion was the best! A wonderful way to visit the penguins up close and personal. The tour guide was so much fun. The cafe was so welcoming and provided a hot drink and pastry on an otherwise very cold day. Loved being able to purchase an item made there in the Falklands with their local wool.

Puerto Madryn, Argentina

This was a great port to just wander and enjoy the beach and beautiful town. A favorite of ours.

Punta Del Este, Uruguay

5 out of 5
A beautiful and fashionable resort town. We took a city highlights tour, including Casa Pueblo, and then wandered around to enjoy the beauty of the port. Everything was so clean and well kept.

Montevideo, Uruguay

We were not impressed with this city. Everywhere we looked on the city highlights tour there were piles of trash. It was disappointing to see that they don't take care of the city. I would skip this port and add the day to Punta Del Este or Buenos Aires.

Buenos Aires, Argentina

We were on Oceania's post cruise package and could not have been more impressed. We have always done our pre or post cruise stays ourselves. This was our first-time using Oceania. From the moment we left the ship until our tour guide walked us through the airport to our airline counter it was perfect. Just the right amount of guided tours and free time. The first visit to Cafe Tortoni was lovely. The visit to El Rosario de Areco, Estancia was so special. It was perfect being in a small group of 22 people which made it so much more personal. The hosts, Poncho and Florencia were so warm and welcoming and made the day a big family gathering with the gauchos, food and drink. The best day of the trip.

Disembarkation

This was a mess due to the port authority requirements. However instead of directing us to be in the Marina Lounge by 9 we should have been told the night before or first thing in the morning that we should wait in a public area until our luggage number was called. We sat in the freezing lounge for at least an hour before being told we could wait in any public area. So we headed to the sun by the pool.
