Review summary

I doubt very much we will sail with Holland America again. Their staff was wonderful, but it didn't make up for all the other disappointments. We have cruised on 19 cruises and this was the bottom of the bucket out of all our cruises.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Dining rooms were very nice. Buffet was only mediocre. When we arrived for our Easter Buffet in the Pinnacle Dining Room we were informed that the special buffet was cancelled. We told them we had already paid for it and they did refund our money. However, they should have notified us in advance so that we didn't get dressed up for nothing.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
We didn't do any of the planned activities because there was nothing we were interested in.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
Absolutely boring. First night a documentary film on the history of Holland America Lines, 2nd night dancers (only 6 of them), 3rd night a very un-funny comedian, 4th night a magician (how many card tricks can you stand?), 5th night the dancers were back. So, so boring. Singers in the bars and lounges were mediocre.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Really enjoyed the waiters, waitresses, and room stewards. Without exception they were friendly, helpful, and really did a great job. My hats off to whoever trains them. They were the best part of the whole cruise.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Very clean. Ship had a tiny, tiny atrium in the center. It was so surprising that there was nothing there and no activities or entertainment there because basically it was just a round center of padded chair seating. We were hoping for decks to enjoy, but very little of that.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Very comfortable bed. Tiniest cabin we have ever experienced (and we are experienced cruisers). Cleanliness was very good.

Ship tip

Be prepared to go hungry sometimes because of lines, don't expect too much in the way of enertainment.
