Review summary

First time for us to Alaska. We will go back! Mountains and rivers and views are spectacular. I wish the food was a little better. Contrary to some reviews I've read i thought the staff were good. You always get some who could be better but they are humans with their own personality.

Embarkation

No problem here except security. Even that wasn't too bad.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Some of the food was excellent e.g. the meat portion was good. Some of the side dishes were a little too foo-foo for my tastes. Just give me mashed potatoes not some special preparation of same. We did go to the Bayou cafe. The filet was top notch, cooked the way I wanted it. The sides except for asparagus were bland for a Cajun restaurant. The "dirty rice" was more like Spanish rice. The creamed spinach was spinach with some cream poured over it. I would be ashamed to serve it. Buffet was not top bad. Mostly ate breakfast there. A word of caution for those who like ice cream - it sucks! Difficult to describe but not the least but creamy. Make sure you get the fettuccine Alfredo! I had it twice as an appetizer but you can get it as a main with chicken or salmon.

Bayou Cafe & Steakhouse

I did write some about this in main review. Most of my party got the filet. It was excellent and not a small portion! My wife added a lobster that she thought was dry. The sides were the downfall of this meal. The dirty rice was Spanish rice. The creamed spinach was spinach with cream poured on it. Not sure who came up with that but I could do better! The asparagus was good but nothing about it said Cajun. I had bananas Foster and again they need to improve on the recipe. I've had it in New Orleans and there is no comparison. If you are going to have it at least try to make it well!

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
We didn't have much time for onboard activities.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
What we saw was good. Magician Trigg Watson and a comedian who's name i forgot but both were good. Other shows out on by shop entertainers was good too.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
I thought they were pretty good. Comparable to other cruises we've been on.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
No issues here. Always takes a bit to figure out the layout.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Cabin E226. I thought this might be a bad cabin because it was still available even though we booked relatively late. Shower was the only downside. Instead of a handheld shower head there was one on the wall. Made it that much more difficult to shower.

Ship tip

We liked forward on decks 10 or 11 for icebergs.

Ports of call

Cruise Hubbard Glacier

We were on deck 10 forward for this. Large glacier.

Cruise Glacier Bay

Pictures or video don't do any of these glaciers justice! Beautiful waterfalls off to either side but you need binoculars to see them well.

Skagway, Alaska

We just went into town and walked around. Enjoyed the history.

Juneau, Alaska

Went whale watching. Did see some whales. Funny thing is on the way out my wife was on the balcony and spied probably about 10 whales! We took pictures and videos for about 10 minutes!

Ketchikan, Alaska

We saw the lumberjack show. Worth the money. We then walked around. Went to Creek Street. There were seals in the creek getting salmon. Even though it was raining we enjoyed it.

Disembarkation

Went pretty smoothly.
