Review summary

Our first time on Iona, so glad we are booked on again in May, we can’t wait. Great selections of ports of call and plenty of sea days to chill out. Really spacious ship. Love the infinity pool on 16 and the infinity spas on 8.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Slight confusion outside the terminal with two lines, one for tested and one for untested but wasn’t a major issue. Overall, considering the circumstances found check in and embarkation to be quite efficient.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Really enjoyed the food, ate in the MDR most nights, visited the Epicurian one night which was exquisite. Great selection of puddings which is the way to my heart.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Enjoyed the quizzes and sports that we took part in.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Entertainment was generally very good, mostly hits and one or two misses. Sky dome is used as a music venue at night and the acoustics are dreadful. My top tip, sit in the loungers by the pool so you get the sound direct from the speakers rather than the reverberations from the glass roof. Saw the same performer on separate nights, sat upstairs first time, thought she was dreadful, sat downstairs next to pool next time and she sounded amazing.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Staff were all great on this cruise. Cabin steward was perfect, everyone was really friendly and helpful.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
We really enjoyed the design of Iona. Top tip as always, know the layout before you go so you’ve got a rough idea where you are going. Lots of people getting lost even towards the end, yet I found all the signage and deck plans more than clear enough.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Very lovely cabin, enjoyed the layout. My only criticism is I found the storage a little smaller than my previous experiences, we managed but if you bring a lot of clothes you might struggle. Cabin could sleep 3, that would have been a squeeze. Great view from balcony.

Ship tip

If you are going to watch a music performance in the sky dome, sit on the seats down by the pool, performer will sound better as the acoustics are terrible if you sit upstairs. Get there early too, especially for the arial performances.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
This time we opted for early disembarkation. I highly recommend this if you are keen to get away. We stepped off the ship at 7am, was on the M3 by 7.30. Couldn’t fault it.
