Review summary

A wonderful first cruise with family members. Our group of six included experienced cruise travelers and newbies. Nothing prepared us for the massive size of the ship, nor its vast neighborhoods. Within a day we were comfortably moving around the ship with a clear idea of its local neighborhoods and the various levels of deck that they were at. By Day 6 we were already feeling the sadness that comes at the prospect of the cruise ending.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Quick, efficient and painless. We parked our car at the port and were able to board early. The boarding process was streamlined. We went to the assigned cabin and found our luggage waiting outside. The Sea Passes were conveniently provided at the cabin.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
The complimentary as well as specialty dining venues were excellent. We made use of the cafe frequently between visits to different parts of the ship at all times of the day. The Chef's Table dinner was an awesome experience as was Wonderland. The complementary main dining room as well as the Windjammer tend to be crowded in a ship that often carries up to 5700 people. We had bought the My Time option that allows us to reserve our dining times at the main dining room on Level 3.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We enjoyed some of the activities at the Royal Theater. Broadway show Grease was staged there as were interesting facts from the Captain, during the Captain's Corner. An excellent game show Love and Marriage emceed by the Cruise Director was hilarious. The Aquatics show was phenomenal. There was a lot of live music everywhere - Jazz, Latin, etc. We also saw a lot of trivia contests - our favorite was guessing the songs by ABBA. There is no shortage of things to do!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Excellent and personalized services. Staff was courteous, and professional. Our cabin steward was very attentive and was able to understand and anticipate our needs before we could even articulate them. The dining room staff was very helpful. The checkouts during calls to ports, and reception coming back was very smooth. The Captain's conversations were very impressive and informative and clearly indicated his muscular leadership style.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
It took us one day to get oriented, but looking back, the ship's structure, organization and architecture is very easy to understand once we have the various levels sorted out and associated with the multiple neighborhoods that Royal Caribbean has created.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Well appointed, large, airy, spacious. Views of the ocean are fantastic. The rocking of the ship barely perceptible. Nice amenities including an in-room espresso machine. The cabin steward was constantly attending to the tidiness and cleanliness of the cabin at all times.

Ship tip

If you can afford it, book the Junior Suite. 6 days at sea without a view of the ocean from your own private space can be claustrophobic.
