Review summary

We love cruising. We always cruised Norwegian (gold Latitudes) but decided to give Princess a try last year when we did a 21 day Med cruise on the Enchanted Princess. That cruise was great so we decided to give them a try for a Caribbean cruise. After this experience, we will definitely be going back to NCL.

Embarkation

Princess does an excellent job of getting you on the ship. If you upload your docs and use the Princess app, you'll breeze right through.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The main dining rooms were really good. The food selection and quality were great. The servers were fantastic.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
The pools were a great place to hang out. Lots of food and entertainment. The smoking in the casino was unbearable. I would have loved to spend more time there but having asthma, it didn't work out.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
The production shows weren't anywhere near the quality of other ships. We saw 2 shows and left halfway through. The comedians were top notch however, they were performing in the Explorers Lounge that was way too small. People were overflowing into the passageways to watch the shows.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The staff were top notch. The cabin steward, Sahu, was fantastic. He was personable and courteous. The servers and bartenders were also great. Service on the pool decks was a bit slow.

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
The ship was very clean. The staff do an excellent job keeping everything vacuumed and wiped down. The ship is in a state of disrepair. The pools and hot tubs had paint chipping off the walls. The hot tubs had broken grates over the drains at the top. The carpeting throughout was worn and patched.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
The size of the cabin was what you would expect. The balcony was larger than any balcony cabin I have ever seen. Plenty of room for the tables and chairs. The carpet is in dire need of replacement. It's worn and patched together. The shower floor is also worn.

Ship tip

Reconsider. Do not use the bag check service from the boat to the plane. They don't have the kinks workded out yet.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

Princess Cays (Cruise Line Private Island) Did not visit port

Weather did not permit visiting this port.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

3 out of 5
Very walkable port. Old San Juan is nice, full of shops and restaurants. The castles are a great place to see. Everyone speaks English and Spanish so communication is not an issue.

Grand Turk Island

The cruise port is nice. We rented a golf cart just outside the cruise port and explored the island. Besides the lighthouse, there in not much to see.

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic Did not visit port

Could not visit due to weather.

We signed up to have our baggage checked to the airplane. In theory, they pick up your bags at the room and transfer them to the plane so there's no need to carry your bags to the airport. I signed my wife and I up for this service. They royally screwed this up. They told me that there was only one person signed up which was me. When the tags arrived, they were made out to my wife. When we arrived at the airport, I went to check a bag and they said I had already checked my bag. We were able to check the bag after Delta fixed Princesses screw up.
