We did the Peninsula Walkway. It is a pretty well marked trail with a number of lookouts with views of fur seals and shore birds. The cacophony of bird calls was amazing in some areas. We arrived in Kaikoura on a cruise ship. We took the shuttle from the tender pier into town and picked up some sandwiches to take on the walk. From the town you follow the road along the water to the trail head. There are restrooms at the beginning and end of the trail but not along it. The trail ends very near the tender pier. You can do it in the reverse direction but there were no opportunities to pick up food in the pier area. Bring plenty of water, wear sunscreen and allow for a few hours to do the walk. There is one portion where steps lead down to the water level. Take it only if you have enough energy to go back up as that trail leads no where.
