Gondola ride!

Thank you for your reply. Yes, sorry I meant to say we were visiting Venice! I was going to book through P&O but it said that you still would have to queue which I found puzzling, usually you can go to the front if you have pre booked tickets. Just wondered if there were any private companies to book with instead of the ship.

Assume you are talking "Venice".------ Our favorites have been gondola rides, strolling along the Grand Canal and visiting the St. Mark's Square with its Basilica, visiting the "Bridge of Sighs", taking a tour out to a glass factory on one of the outer islands but our most favorite was a night gondola ride we took in 2016, beginning with a wine and cheese treat. One tip about day gondola rides, check the tide levels, since the island is sinking it is difficult to maneuver the gondolas under the many bridges in the picturesque canals at high tide, but they take you anyway, and your money, though you spend most of the gondola tour out in the Grand Canal.

A few of our rides have been booked ship excursions so no wait, but more than half have been walkups. Yea, we had to wait. I can't recall how long, but since I can't recall it wasn't significant.

We were there again last November. The flooding was the worst I have ever seen in Venice. Wife and her sister took a gondola ride and liked it, first time for her sister. I did the guided walking tour, it was raining and due to the flooding we had to divert all over the place. But I enjoyed it anyway. You better do Venice before it sinks below the waves.
