RCI Ruined My Cruise Trip by klcruising2017

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Voyager of the Seas / Destination: Asia & Indian Ocean

I am writing to share my totally dissatisfying cruising experience with RCI and their poor complaint handling practice. During the trip, my old mum and her old buddy (over seventies) suffered so much and said won’t cruise anymore because of such bad experience provided by RCI. I wrote a complaint to RCI after the trip, and what they said is the trip was “successfully delivered”. I am so frustrated with their unempathetic customer attitude and poor service. So I decided to share my experience with the future cruisers about my bad experience as reference when choosing cruisers. Most of all, the human traffic control measures by RCI cannot be worse, illustrated with the following examples: 1. When the ship was berthing at Sanya, we joined the RCI’s onshore excursion, but have to wait for an hour for getting off the ship. Moreover, RCI never had enough staff to help to keep people in order in the entire process. Worse was that when coming back, there were only 2 check-points to cater for hundreds of people coming in, resulting in lots of people having to wait for long time. My two ladies could not stand long and had to suffer from a long queue with people elbowing and pushing each other, ending up mourning and almost falling sick when getting back to the cabin. 2. The ship then was expected to berth at Vietnam 8am next day, which made most people flock to the restaurants for breakfast between 6 and 8am (so as to get off the ship at 8am), resulting in hundreds of people waiting for tables or standing to eat at the restaurant. The staff again did nothing to direct people to other places even the restaurant was full. The buffet restaurant ended up turning into chaos. When we were forced to leave for another restaurant, we were asked to wait outside and yet with plenty of empty tables inside. The result was that people could not get tables to eat and tables could not serve people, totally ridiculous. Again, my two old ladies had to rush through all the places for breakfast with their soring legs and ended up eating like a race. Such service quality is totally unacceptable. There are still a lot more examples that RCI failed customers in keeping managing their guest properly and happily with decent human control measures. I cannot believe at all that RCI which claims themselves as an expert of serving thousands of customers with quality service would turn out so ugly. Plus, when I talked at their guest service, some of their staff attitude were rude. Furthermore, some other negative experiences are worth sharing as below: Poor food quality, especially the cooking quality and variety. We were fed up with the same types of bad food for days. My two old ladies even lost their appetite and did not want to eat their food anymore. RCI’s staff’s sense of infection control is totally unacceptable. I had once pouring half the glass of juice into my bottle at the restaurant, the staff then mixed that glass with a new glass, and put them back in the serving tray to pretend two full glasses. Seriously? The guest service were not responsive, probably because of too many people lining up for inquiries or paying bills (the line for paying bills once lasted even for about 10 hours till 12 midnight) all the time. I could not believe RCI’s system was so inefficient and had to let their guests wait all the time in the trip. Is it a cruising trip or a lining trip? The onshore excursion was totally not value for money. The RCI’s onshore excursion only dropped the participants at one seaside with some shopping malls. The weather was bad so that we could not swim, ending up nothing to do. A lot of participants ended up waiting in the coach for coming back. However, the coach did not even provide air-conditioning during the hot and humid summer. In short, I felt like paying money for suffering. The customer services for complaint handling is very bad. After the trip, I wrote a detailed complaint to RCI. They came back with the compensation of cruise coupon or on board consumption coupon for a future itinerary. Since my two old ladies were tortured by their service so much and do not want to cruise anymore, the coupons are actually useless. This also illustrates how RCI is unempathetic and insincere in treating their customers. I then said that if they really wanted to restore the confidence and relieve the suffering for my two old ladies, any token other than cruise related products serve well, even though a nice dinner at a good restaurant would do. However, their literal response from their headquarters to that is: “Even though we recognize a portion of your vacation with us was negatively impacted, the entire cruise in itself was not. This means there were services all of you paid for that were successfully provided.” Literally, the entire trip is ruined to my two old ladies due to their poor service. How hypocritical and thick-skinned of the RCI’s response! Such customer service attitude serves as a final blow to my initiative to talk with them anymore. Hope my experience can help you pick cruisers, especially when with the elderly. To me, I will not cruise with RCI anymore. If you do, good luck and hope you would not repeat my tragedy.

a wonderful cruise experience by edypan

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Voyager of the Seas / Destination: Asia & Indian Ocean

This was the 2nd cruise trip with Royal Caribbean.

The food was fantastic and full of varieties.

The rooms were cleaned almost 3 to 4 times a day (whenever we left the room). Great job!

The show was good. If possible bring in few more international performers..

The cruise director was great.

However the the lady (cant recall her name) in charge of the program was horrible. Acting too childish on TV and rather unfriendly.

VOS Cruise 6.4.17 by cruiserchick65

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Voyager of the Seas / Destination: South Pacific

This was our first cruise and it was awesome.  We had the best time from the moment we boarded.  All staff greeted us with a happy smile. Our bar staff, waiters in the MDR were exceptional nothing was all complicated for them. Hats off to the Cruise director Jamie and his offsider Katie and their staff who are fantastic at what they do.  Always funny to listen and watch them.  Never a dull moment.  lol.  Getting on and off the ship was so organised it was a pleasure to be on this ship.  Pity this ship is not coming back to Australia after 2018.

The only thing I would suggest would be more music on the pool deck depending on weather.

I would recommend this ship to all my friends and their friends. Had the best time.Happy

Amazing experience by LettyS

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Voyager of the Seas / Destination: South Pacific

We travelled on Voyager of the Seas from 26th March until 6th April.

I have to say it was an unbelievable experience and one that I will treasure forever.

Our waiter Kailash Sawad in the formal dining room on Level 3, was amazing.  He always made us feel special and went the extra mile to meet all our requirements.  It was an absolute pleasure having him as our waiter for the whole duration. Outstanding customer support. 10/10.   Thank you Kailash for all your assistance and hopefully we can meet up again on our next cruise!

As this was our very... by Deemerio

Sail date: /
Ship: Voyager of the Seas

As this was our very first cruise I really had no idea what I was booking. After speaking to friends, who highly recommended RCI, we chose a cruise to the Islands of Fiji, New Caledonia and Vanuatu on the Voyager of the Seas. We couldn't have been more impressed by the speedy check-in (Junior Suite got us into the quick line), the lovely staff we spoke to at the dock who were all very understanding and helpful to a couple of newbies. From arrival at the dock to stepping foot on the ship took only about 10 minutes (including the re-taking of my sea pass photo as the first one was too dark). At about 1pm, after wandering around all the decks and having a lovely fresh lunch at the Windjammer and a cocktail at the pool bar we found our Stateroom, 1658 - Junior Suite deck 10. We met our attendant, the lovely VJ who was wonderful the whole time and couldn't do enough for us. The cabin was gorgeous and just a perfect size with its walk in robe, bathroom (with shower over the bath), king size bed and lounge area with a couch and two chairs. The balcony was a perfect size also with a table (big enough for a meal for two) and two comfy (back adjustable) chairs. As we bought a "First night done right" package (first night onboard in a speciality restaurant) and a "3 Night Speciality Restaurant" package we got to try out all the restaurants and even go back to the one we liked the best. Chops was great but the menu was quite limited, Giovanni's was slightly better with a wonderful menu and a great variety to choose from, from scallops to osso bucco, but for us the standout was Izumi's. We went there twice and didn't have the same things either time as the menu was wide and varied. Everything was extremely fresh and cooked (or not) to perfection. Between us we tried the soups, tempura, sashimi, rainbow rolls, ngiri and the hot rocks with both chicken/beef skewers and the seafood ones too. Excellent!! Most breakfast and (other) dinners were spent in the MDR with lunch at the Windjammer most days but two which we had at the MDR also. The buffet breakfast at MDR was great and the 'sharing a table' set up enabled us to meet several lovely couples some of who we went onto spend more time with having drinks, attending concerts and having other meals. I was not a fan of the alacarte breakfast as the service was a little slow and the food usually not all that hot by the time we got it, this was really the only disappointing thing on the whole cruise. MDR at dinner time was a wonderful experience, from our exceptional waiter Fe and her assistant Yuzheng to the food, drink and entertainment, we had a ball nearly every night we attended. We especially enjoyed dressing up for the formal nights and for the two Island nights (wish there was more 'themed' nights though). The entertainment we attended (2 ice shows, comedian, broadway & music from movies) were all very enjoyable and performed very well by the artists. The "love & marriage" show was hilarious and we really wish we'd caught the "Quest" as we heard it was excellent. The pools on board where gorgeous, we especially enjoyed the Solarium after a shore excursion as it was quieter and loungers were easier to find. The pool bar makes lovely refreshing cocktails which we probably had too many of. The Ports we visited were Isle of Pines (lovely but crowded), Lautoka (private excursion from this port that was a real comedy of errors), Mystery Island (stunningly beautiful and my favourite) and Noumea where we did a ship excursion to Amadee Island (another stunning island where we swam, went on a glass bottom boat, had a tasty lunch then swam some more). Our favourite bar (and yes, we tried them all till we found the one we felt most comfortable in) was the R Bar. Marbelli and Cruz were amazing with their service and attention to detail (after only a day or two they remembered our names and what we liked to drink and when). Marbelli also conducted cocktail classes which were informative and tasty! Probably the best thing we purchased was the Unlimited Drinks package, so easy and convenient to just hand over your Sea Pass card without having to worry about paying etc. We made use of it all over the ship! We had reason to visit the Service desk only twice and both times our query was answered quickly and efficiently and even followed up (in the first instance) the next day by Franka to make sure we had received our items. Overall apart from a few little niggles (hardly anything really) we would not hesitate to cruise on the Voyager or indeed any ship in the Royal Caribbean fleet again!

Great cruise by jennb10

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Voyager of the Seas / Destination: South Pacific

The whole experience was awesome. The food and the variety was amazing. The only thing that I would probably suggest was that a lot of the time the things we wanted to do where scheduled at the same time as others that you wanted to do.

I went on board thinking I would have a relaxing time but there was so much to want to do and be involved with that just sitting around relaxing was the last thing to do but I did make sure I got to do that as well.

Do have a complaint about the Star Lounge, there is a small step down at the back of this lounge and in the dark it cant be seen as it is not highlighted, hence I went for a fall down this step and no I had not had a drink and it wasnt in rough weather so now I have a very sore back still. Maybe it needs to have a reflective strip put on it as it is quite dangerous. Other than this the experience was awesome and I wouldnt hesitate to do it again.

South pacific by 1955duck

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Voyager of the Seas / Destination: South Pacific

Hi, this was my second time on the voyager. This time I had a balcony and enjoyed every minute of it. However, I didn't find the room attendant as happy and chatty as some of the other attendants (and the last attendant from my last cruise he was amazing) and I missed coming back to different towel art each night. I also feel that when my grandkids went ice skating (even though they were on the ice with their parents) I did feel that there was a lack of support for some other of the kids on the ice, and wondered why there was none of the professional skaters there for support. I also wondered why that they did not have the penguins to help the less experienced ones. I do believe that they do provied them on you other ships though. Overall, I was very happy with my trip and get really angry with people that complain all the time. Maybe change some of you activities around a little for the more regular cruisers. (Just a thought)

my personal experience on the Voyager of the Seas. by Joshuatom

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Voyager of the Seas / Destination: South Pacific

Oh my god your service staff was beyond my expectations and my Grandchildren loved the novelties every day ! ( Towel Animals) brilliant ! please give my best regards to Randy.

This was our first cruise and I must say from our Arrival and checking in was superb just a little waiting time to pass through to Customs.

One good tip is to have some carry on luggage with changes of clothing (swimming gear ) as your luggage could take up to 5hrs to 6 hrs to arrive at your room.

From then on its Bon Voyage relax and enjoy your cruise, make sure you apply your sun screen and that's a must.

Love to all going to miss you Voyagers x

Fantastic cruise by dolphingirl78

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Voyager of the Seas / Destination: South Pacific

Over all the cruise was fantastic it was my first ever cruise  I had no expectations on what to expect...but we did learn a lot for our future cruises, for example.... Going to pre pay our drink packages and have more money to spend on our cruise... Also we are going to put money on our sea pass that way we will have extra money...

The entertainment was ok I do believe that there should be more stuff to do on our way back to Syndey... Plus I do also believe there should be more activities or entertainment for the teenagers or kids to do...

We didn't have kids but you could see the kids were entertain enough on the boat.

Also I need to mention the food... The food was unbelievably define...

I would like to say over all my family and I had a blast and the Islands were just "WOW" we so loved the islands threw best Hoilday anyone can ask for So Thank you Royal Carribian Voyager for a fantastic time away and you will be seeing us again soon😀😀😀🌴🌴🦀🦀🍉🍉🍔🍔🍧🍧🍹🍹⚓️⚓️⚓️🏝❤️❤️❤️❤️

Awesome by moringreys

Ship: Voyager of the Seas / Destination: South Pacific

We were on the voyager of the seas last feb 21-march 5! The cruise is a very memorable experience. Smooth sailing, everything is perfect! relaxing and worth it! All staffs are amazing! always smiling and ready to help! It's a very clean cruise ship, i can't complain about anything! Service is awesome, fully packed activities, 24 hours room attendants, the staterooms with balcony are perfect, size is reasonable, a lot of compartment and very clean! The only thing that i can say needs improvement are the lifts, but still not a big issue.  abug thank you to Mukesh and Eugene who patiently catered us in the sapphire room! they were amazing, very quick and efficient! To all the bar staff at the Tavern, R Bar especially Garry and Schooner Bar with Bartender Gil! Gave us best experience! so friendly and no dull moments! Also special thanks to our room attendant Bliss who cleaned our room 8608 for 12 days! Fantastic job, spotless all the time and very friendly! Will definitely go back as it is an awesome cruise!

Ship: Voyager of the Seas / Destination: South Pacific

Hi

great service and food, guess the only complaint would be better coffee but that's probably just us. It would have been nice to be able to turn air-con off lucky we had a balcony so we could open the door, but then again that's probably just us. We had a fantastic time it was so relaxing!

Poor Shore excursions by Wazza4Gina

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Voyager of the Seas / Destination: South Pacific

After travelling and cruising Asia previously they have a much better planed and organised shore tours.  The shore tours for Fiji (lLautoka and Suva) were very poor and overpriced for what they were. Take Suva as an example. We did the 3 hour Cultural Markets Tour. !hr travel to get there, 45 minutes there and 1 hr travel on return. Definitely not value for money when your on a bus for two thirds of the time. If I were to travel to the same area I wouldn't pre book tours or book tours on the ship. Id definitely do my own thing in each port.
