This was our 52nd anniversary back-to-back Baltic Cruise from Stockholm, with stops in Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. The first leg of the cruise was fantastic as reported in my previous review. Unfortunately, the second leg did no go as planned. On day 2 of the second week my wife got tested positive for COVID and I got tested positive on the 4th day. We were quarantined for the remainder of the cruise. We do not blame Royal Caribbean for what has happened. We were fully aware that there were risks associated with taking this cruise and we do not regret booking this trip. Royal is giving us a prorated refund for the days that we were in quarantine. This review describes our experiences during the quarantine and the protocols that we had to follow.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
This was the second leg of the back-to-back cruise. There was no embarkation because we were already on the ship.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
Except for the first 3 days, most of our meals we consumed in the quarantine cabin. We ordered room service from either the room service menu or the MDR menu. We were allowed to order anything listed in the menus without any restrictions. Food was delivered on trays and placed outside our door. There was a nock on a door upon delivery.
Onboard Activities
1 out of 5
Being confined to a quarantine cabin was no fun. We couldn’t leave the cabin for any reason. So for most of the week we were very inactive and bored. We did get lot of rest and sleep.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
We received excellent service. Every morning nurse made a visit to our cabin and checked our vital signs and gave as medication as needed. Guest services called everyday to check on how we were doing. The loyalty ambassador as well as diamond lounge concierge also contacted us daily. Everyone was very kind and sympathetic. The dining room staff call us three times per day reminding us to order our meals.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
We were glad that we had a wonderful cruise experience the prior week and enjoyed all ship’s venues and everything that the ship had to offer.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
Since we booked a junior suite, we were given an upgraded quarantine cabin that had a window. Essentially it was an ocean view room. The normal quarantine cabin is an interior room.
Ship tip
We had discussed among ourselves this entire COVID experience and decided that next time we’ll be more cautious in terms of COVID protocols. We definitely will be wearing masks at most venues.
We were asked to have our luggage ready by 7 AM. We were escorted by guest staff off the ship. They were dressed in white garments and fully masked. Swedish authorities did not have any COVID protocols for travelers, so we took a cab to the airport and were on our way home to California (fully masked all the way).
Thank you for a sensible and very reasonable review, given you must have been disappointed. I’ve been getting sick of reading reviews from people who get covid and automatically point the finger at the cruise line and assume they’ve done something wrong, like it never occurred to them they could catch a virus that is literally everywhere! Sorry this affected the 2nd leg of your cruise, hope you haven’t been poorly and you get to make up for it soon.
