Review summary

We have been on 5 RC cruises and we love to see new places. We had looked forward to the Southeast Asia cruise for quite some time. The stateroom and attendant were excellent. The ports of call were very interesting. The ship itself was clean and in good shape, and we did enjoy the ice show even with the extremely poor seats. However, the overall dining experience was the worst I have experienced as a cruiser. That includes being pressured to purchase a dining package nearly every time were were in the Windjammer or the main dining room.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
The buffet was overcrowded, and there just were not enough seats for all of the diners. It took away from the fun of the cruise. The main dining room was OK, but the food was not as good as it has been on other RC cruises. We were continually being asked to upgrade to a dining package, and that took away from the enjoyment of both the dining room and the buffet - on the rare occasion that we were actually able to sit in the Windjammer.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
We really only used the walking/running track - it was ok, but not as nice as on other RC ships.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
We really enjoyed the ice show - however, there were not enough seats. People clearly were saving huge sections of seats. We wound up at the very back of the venue at at table. I would have loved to be able to sit closer to the action. The ice show itself was good.

Children's Programs

I traveled with my husband.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
The service in the Windjammer was nonexistent. One person, on one evening, helped us find a place to sit. The service in the main dining room was OK. Our room steward was excellent! He was friendly and kept our room very clean.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
The common areas were clean and well maintained. However, the ship's design needs work. The dining areas, mainly the Windjammer, must be enlarged to accommodate the travelers. Most cruisers of my acquaintance really enjoy the onboard dining experience. It was not enjoyable on this cruise.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We both loved this cabin! It was roomy, and had the best lavatory of any other RC ship we have cruised on. We really enjoyed the balcony and the closets and drawer space.

Ship tip

I would warn them about the Windjammer. Even getting there early does not mean you will get a seat.

Ports of call

Singapore

4 out of 5
No, we toured for 2 days on our own. As far as I know, there were not excursions offered.

Penang (Pulau Pinang), Malaysia

4 out of 5
Yes, the Habitat on Penang Hill. It was enjoyable.

Phuket, Thailand

4 out of 5
We took the all day tour. Very interesting.

Disembarkation

Everything worked well. There were not enough crew members showing the self help folks where to line up. Other that that, it was fine.
