Excellent cruise and a great way to spend time in a lot of cities in Germany. Viking really goes out of their way to ensure you have a great experience and worked to meet our expectations.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Embarkation was very easy and the staff set the expectations for the week the minute we walked on the ship. We were greeted by the Hotel Manager and our room was ready early so we could start to unpack right away and enjoy the day. One tip would be to make sure you know how to find your ship! It can be at one of three docks in Basel and we had to cab to all three to find it. While we probably missed a way to figure this out, if you make your own travel arrangements as we did, make sure you know how to find it and save some time.

Food and Dining

Every day there was a regionally themed menu available for dinner, along with other items that were available for every dinner. We mostly ate from themed menu, which was well prepared and delicious. One evening, we both decided to have steaks, and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the beef.
Plenty of options at breakfast and lunch, and the overall quality and flavor was always very good.
The staff went out of their way to make sure you enjoyed your meal. On several occasions, I saw them offer up alternatives to guests who didn't seem to be enjoying the choice they made. They made sure you had a great meal and experience.
Highly recommend the Silver Spirits package if you like to have even a couple of drinks per day. The broader selection of wines and beers, along with an impressive selection of liquors made it worth the additional spend.

Service and Staff
5 out of 5
The staff and their service was incredible. They were very attentive to details and made sure to meet your needs. We were impressed at how many of the staff knew us, and called us, by name. It always felt like the staff truly enjoyed their jobs. They took time to talk with guests and get to know them, made recommendations on what to do in the towns we stopped in, and asked about your day when you returned. Really set things apart.

Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
The overall layout of the cabin worked well for the amount of time we spent in the cabin. Having the balcony did make it feel larger and gave us a little more space which was really nice.
We chose the optional excursion of an e-Bike ride through the Black Forest. This was one of the highlights of our trip. It was about an eight hour day, but with frequent stops, breaks, and a long lunch, it was a very comfortable ride. Being able to really see the country and be close to it versus seeing it out the window of a tour bus made this well worth the full day. Our guides were very knowledgeable and gave us plenty of time to explore and take pictures along the way.
Highly recommend the Top of Cologne optional excursion if it is available. This was an incredible experience to see the Cologne Cathedral and go into areas the general public isn't allowed to go. Very unique.
Very easy and organized process. We made our own travel arrangements, but the staff ensured we had transportation arranged to get us to our next destination.
