Review summary

This was our first Viking cruise, and it exceeded all expectations -- definitely worth the extra price given everything that is included (and the optional drink package was great value). Some of our friends made fun of us for picking this itinerary, but we loved it. Although the crowds were very old (average age late 60's or early 70's with some guests in their 90's), but we loved not having any children or teens on board (we are in our 50's). The trip includes 2 nights in hotels in each of New Orleans and Memphis. We had a fantastic time and will definitely be cruising Viking again because of its great service and logistics.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Food was amazing, and service was outstanding

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Due to the small size of the ship, the activities were much more limited than other cruises we have taken. The music was great, the daily quizzes were fun, the infinity pool was nice, but there could have been a few more offerings (for example, a morning or evening group stretch or cooking demonstrations)

Entertainment

5 out of 5

Children's Programs

No children was a feature, not a bug

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The most amazing cruise staff we have ever experienced (this was our first time on Viking and will not be our last)

Ship Quality

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Nice size. Very clean. Loved the balcony but would have liked a screen door (not just a curtain) to prevent bugs from entering the room at night (we quickly learned to keep the glass door closed).

Ship tip

Expect a very old crowd (we were the youngest in our early 50's), but it was a great trip

Ports of call

New Orleans, Louisiana

Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Airboat was fun but unfortunately did not see any gators due to weather

St. Francisville, Louisiana

Included plantation tour was OK

Natchez, Mississippi

Optional soul food and music tour was amazing. Fun casino.

Vicksburg, Mississippi

5 out of 5
Included National Military Park is a must-see. Great guide and pace.

Greenville, Mississippi

5 out of 5
Included Steve Azar show and meal was unexpectedly great. BB King museum was good.

ROSEDALE, MISSISSIPPI

Ship docks a long way from Memphis, and it's a long bus ride to Memphis. Viking manages the transition as best as logistically possible, but it wasn't the best day of the trip.

Memphis, Tennessee

We booked a separate Graceland VIP tour (not through Viking) and was very glad that we did because Graceland requires a full day to see everything. It was only a 15-minute Uber ride from the hotel and was very easy to book directly.
