Having missed out on a longer QM2 cruise due to Covid in 2020 we just wanted to try this iconic ship. We were not disappointed. Aside from expensive drinks we loved it. Force 8 and rough seas on the return journey and it was as smooth as a billiard table on board. We definitely want to do the transatlantic now.
Embarkation

Boarded at QE2 terminal and it was pretty quick tbh. The car was taken care of by CPS with whom we’d booked parking. They met us in the terminal and took it away. A porter took the luggage and after a 20 minute que (we were 1hr early) it was pretty quick through the terminal and onboard ship.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining

All good in the Britannia restaurant. Fixed dining on the early evening sitting worked really well for us. Great service and superb food at every meal. Lunch and breakfast also first class. Room service breakfast twice at no charge was great. The scrambled eggs and salmon are delicious. Buffet was fine with plenty of choice including a roast at lunch.
Onboard Activities

Only one sea day but as always excellent enrichment talks on Cunard. We wanted to see the planetarium however when we got there we were told that we should have booked along with about 50 other disappointed people. It was not made clear in the program which literally said ‘be there 5 minutes before hand’. Apparently it’s on the app which we didn’t use.
Entertainment

Didn’t use the theatre as it was only a 3 night cruise. The live music around the ship was to a very good standard.
Service and Staff

Good service all around. Easy to get a drink as the waiters were attentive. Restaurant staff were excellent and our cabin steward was always around and helpful. Nice to have the nightly turndown on Cunard.
Ship Quality

Our 1st time on QM2. It’s unlike regular cruise ship being an ocean liner. Navigate via stairway rather than deck. Just back from dry dock it was clean and still spectacular belying it’s 20 years in service. It felt like ‘an event’ being onboard.
Cabin / Stateroom

Firstly, we certainly can’t complain as we booked an early saver inside and were upgraded before the cruise to a balcony. Having said that there was an interconnecting door which we’re not keen on. On the last day at night we were treated to the sound of next door’s tv until around 1am. The balcony was sheltered and because of this it was usable in November so that was a bonus. The plug hole ‘glugs’ away to itself sometimes but overall the cabin feels surprisingly modern, light and bright.
Ship tip
Book the planetarium in advance. You can do it on the app or via the concierge. The spaces go quickly but Cunard don’t tell anyone. Apparently it’s really good. We’ll do it next time.
It’s fine. Cunard laid on a free shuttle in to Blankenberge. We walked around but it was pretty rainy and we’d been before so didn’t stay too long. Plenty of options to transfer into Bruges.
Really good. We were instructed to stay in our cabin until our 9am disembarking. We had breakfast in the MDR then watched tv until a call at 815am advised that we could leave early. Our luggage was waiting for us in the Mayflower terminal and our car was parked a few yards away in the car park. We were heading up the avenue (A33) at 845am.
