Would highly recommend the QM2, and will definitely be back! Transatlantic is now on my bucket list. Not sure if I’d take my children on this ship, but travelling as a couple, it was perfect. Plenty of time to relax, loved getting dressed up in the evening, enough activities to keep us entertained, service was perfect and the ship itself is absolutely stunning.
Embarkation

Very quick and easy. Arrived at Southampton an hour earlier than our scheduled arrival time after a three hour drive and were allowed to embark straight away. From dropping the car off to being in our cabin took approx 10 minutes.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Food was ok. Nothing special. Buffet was slightly disappointing in comparison to my last cruise on RCI independence of the seas. We were also surprised that the buffet was closed for a couple of hours around 4pm during muster. We had just gotten back on the ship at 4pm after our excursion in Hamburg and there was nowhere for us to eat. Our only option was room service so ordered that.
Food in the main dining room was of decent quality but portions a bit on the small side. Not a problem thou as you could order more if you wanted to. Desserts were nice.
Also, room service is included at no extra cost and was nice.
Afternoon tea was a lovely experience but again, wasn’t blown away by the food. The sandwiches for example were very basic, one of them was literally just beetroot, another just ham. Scones weren’t great neither. The cakes were nice thou. I kinda felt I didn’t need to diet before coming on board, as I did with RCI...
Ate at the verandah steak house, and I must say the food here was outstanding. Definitely worth the extra surcharge.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
There are I think 3 pools on board but we didn’t use them as weather wasn’t ideal. One of them is an indoor pool but again didn’t bother with it.
Various pub quizzes in the lion pub were fun.
Casino is good, although I wish they had poker cash games. Enjoyed playing video poker.
There is a huge library if you’re in to reading, and an area where there are various table games you can play, such as monopoly, scrabble and chess.
Various other activities throughout the day, for example dancing, lectures in the theatre, cinema, a planetarium. We watched one of the planetarium shows and A Star Is Born in the cinema. Activities were enough to keep us entertained, but the ship for us was more about relaxing.
Entertainment

Evening shows did not disappoint. We had the MacDonald brothers one night, and they were amazing. Two nights of dance/music shows, which were great, and one night a Beatles tribute act. We didn’t attend this show though as we aren’t fans of their music.
Service and Staff

Amazing! No complaints whatsoever.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Absolutely stunning ship, and everywhere is spotless. Best way for me to describe this ship is Vegas top end hotel (eg the Wynn) meets the titanic!
Didn’t notice any areas of the ship needing any maintenance.
Ships layout is a bit difficult to get used to but the maps around each level are very good.
Cabin / Stateroom

Couldn’t fault our cabin. Lovely (sheltered) balcony, quiet, immaculately clean spacious enough and with a decent amount of storage space.
Ship tip
Queue early for the afternoon tea as it’s very popular!
Didn’t care much for Hamburg. It was ok but wouldn’t go back. Miniature wonderland was an interesting experience. Booked the excursion through Cunard and we were pleased with the service. We didn’t go on this cruise for the destination, but for the ship experience.
There was a problem with one of the exits so everybody had to use the same one and were stuck in a queue of moaning passengers for half an hour. However, once the problem was rectified and the other exit was reopened, the queue started moving again.
