Review summary

The Grand is one of four main dinning rooms on the Ovation of the Seas. The food is average and nothing spectacular. The wait staff is amazing which makes up for the average food which is being presented in the dinning room.

Mbbarnes, we're cruising to NZ. I agree re formal nights- you get over them after a while

If I could change one thing about a cruise I'd get rid of formal nights.

I believe on a Formal Night at least a Tie should be worn by men,it is no hardship,NO pun intended,it shows respect,and can easily be taken off afterwards,happy Cruising xxxx

As for Formal nights you don't need to worry about them if you dont want to. It is part of the fun but not essential. You will need decent neat casual clothing for evening meals in most restaurants though, especially the speciality restaurants.

Haven't cruised on Ovation but our previous cruise on Royal Carribean would suggest that it is worth doing the speciality restaurants if you're at all picky about food. Izume was very good and Chops Grille was fabulous. The extra cost is worth it. Complimentary options are average even in the main dining room. We're hoping Ovation this March might be better than Explorer in that regard. Entertainment was also average. However the sheer number of things to do on board and the typically great service really does make cruising with Royal ideal for families.

We are on ovation in February we were told wonderland was great but everyone on here has said it’s not so I think we will have to be our own judge

Thank you again for your contribution,a lot of people do not realise how valuable the input from people like yourself is,do they need to pack for Formal Nights,do you need to allow for more than one Speciality Restaurant.Your input has been invaluable,thank you again,happy and safe cruising xxx

Yes, we have eaten at Chops Grill which was excellent. We were not overly impressed with Wonderland. Jamies Italian is good but do not know if it is truly worth the additional expense and my wife and son loved Izume Japenese resturant and highly recommend going if you like Japanese seafood.

We are still on the ship till tomorrow morning. We has two formal night and the entertainment was excellent. We have enjoyed the cruise and the cruise director is funny snd engaging. We had a Beatles tribute band and a Motown band as additional entertaiment which were first class acts.
