Review summary

Just docked in Malta after a 7 night cruise on Oceana. This is our second cruise with P&O after sailing on Britannia last November. Positives: P&O collect your hold luggage from the airport and deliver it directly to your cabin; the same happens at disembarkation, whereby you collect your hold luggage from the carousel upon arrival back in the UK. Excellent food selection, presentation and quality for evening dining in the restaurants; staff very attentive and pleasant; great sized ship, although having cruised mainly with Celebrity & Royal Caribbean, we missed the fact that there was no outside dining area at the back of the ship and the layout of the ship took some getting used to. Drinks prices were on a par with UK pub prices. Ships tours were very well organised and managed. Negatives: the ship is very tired; our cabin and balcony on Deck 11 particularly so and there was a noticeable smell of sewage on Deck 11 midship throughout the cruise! Our cabin had previously been used as a 'day cabin' as we were not due to arrive until the evening of embarkation; the bin in our bathroom had not been emptied and there was a used shower cap in the shower. The choice of food during buffet lunch was very limited and self-service resembled a school canteen. The evening show productions were quite poor, compared to what we had previously experienced on Britannia, the highlight of which was Ukebox. We didn't like the layout of the seating in the Footlights Theatre, which was fed from two central spines, effectively hemming you in your seats. I don't think we'll be cruising onboard Oceana again after our experience.....

Not sure how many other cruise lines or ships you've sailed on redders48ish? If you haven't already done so, I'd urge you to try something different.... If you fancy a change to the P&O format, from our experience, there are some better options for a similar price. However, as you say, each to their own....

We sailed on Oceana pre refit in 2015 and loved it, we’ve booked to go on her again next year. I guess each to their own in what they like and enjoy as far as ship size and facilities are concerned. I agree about the shows though. Compared to this years Ventura offerings the performances on Oceana were weak.
