Review summary

Royal Carribean is no longer something special... The entetainment was very disappointing with the exception of the one Juggling act. My adult children were bored much of the time. It seems like they have entertainment for the old folks and young folks but not in between unless you drink... I imagine the entertainment is much netter when you are drunk. But since none of us do that, it left us a little disappointed. The food was disappointing too... unles you pay for the specialty restaurants. So it is nice to have more affordable cruises... but the cruising magic is gone. The staff tries their best to make you feel special... but they obviously have less to work with and its obvious they are cutting corners to get the price down. Everyone in our Family agreed it was a good vacation but not great. I feel like the magic has gone out of cruising, with so many corners being cut. My family said that they would prefer many other vacations over this one.

I understand why your adult children were bored. The Canaveral sailings are dull. Especially at night. On my last sailing the night club was even closed one night. The Latin club which is always packed on other ships was empty after the first night when everyone figured out the band was boring. Miami/Lauderdale is the way to go for Royal. Canaveral is a snooze cruise.

We still love cruising, but have noticed the cuts over the years. I also think the “wow” factor diminishes after experiencing something a few times as well. Just look on this site at reviews for any cruise and you will find wildly different reviews from those on the same cruise. Another issue seems to be as a society we have become so used to access to constant entertainment and stimulation via our phones, tablets and other electronics that we have forgotten how to entertain ourselves or just relax and do nothing. You’re on vacation, try reading a book, relaxing on a deck chair and enjoying the ocean, doing a crossword puzzle or taking a nap. I look forward to unplugging for a week and not using my phone or other electronics, but many seem to go into withdrawals after an hour without it, let alone a week.

I have cruised the Oasis and thought it beautiful, but I have to agree about the activities and fun factor. That’s where Carnival wins, hands down. We left Carnival in 2007 to cruise RCCL and NCL, but even though the ships were gorgeous and the food great, we felt we didn’t have as much fun as we did in Carnival. We returned to Carnival this year and were so glad we did. We had so much fun, we booked a B2B for next year on the Magic.

I think it the size of ship and amount of people on it that causes this. When you get close to 10,000 passangers and crew you loose something. We prefer smaller ships.

It's hard to feel the "magic" anywhere that you have experienced a few times already. Just to spend quality time with family is pretty special, don't wait for the venue to dictate if you have fun or not. Some times you got to make your own magic... I personally like the low cost / low frills model. I don't need a lot of extras so I can cruise cheap. If another person needs more to be entertained, it is available for a higher price. But cruising is not the only fun vacation so variety may be the best thing.
