The stateroom on the Star was really nice, though the bathroom was a tight fit. The issues we had were the public areas were that it was hard to navigate the hallways due to the flow of traffic and that the smokers made enjoying the outside or even being in the stairway near the casino very difficult. Even in the non-smoking areas they were not controlled well.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Most meals were fine, but nothing that makes my list of great food - except the chocolate buffet - that was amazing! We never ate in the specialty restaurants, the main dining areas were good, just not special. Freestyle dining was really nice for us - especially after returning from an excursion
Entertainment
1 out of 5
The entertainment was okay. Definitely not anything to make you want to stick around and enjoy. The exceptions being the Second City show and the Aerialist show. The activities were definitely geared towards the 60+ age group.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
All the staff were super friendly, though a bit cheesy in their efforts to appeal to the older crowd. Our room steward knew our names and would greet us whereever he saw us on board
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
Layout wasn't the greatest. There was one main hallway for the public areas and at the release of shows or main dining times it became hard to get around the ship. The boat was extremely clean, though a little dated feeling.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
The stateroom was bigger than expected and kept very clean. There was so much storage area we could hide the suitcases away. TV was small, and bathroom was uncomfortably undersized. Location was good - we are glad we did not have a balcony, because it would have been unused due to all the smokers nearby
Pros: Good food, great port stops
Cons: Too many smokers, entertainment geared for older group
