I had trouble all week with the ship charging my friends costs to my card ? Also their froze everything I spent with my bank , so I owed them nothing when I left the ship. 2 days later the full amount came out off my bank again ? I rang TUI only to be told it's in the small print, the ship freezes my money then takes the same amount out in another transaction then I have to wait 14 days before I get my money back that their froze it's robbery, I will never sail with this ship again

Ship tip

Watch your account daily as they take wat their want and u have to wait 14 days before getting your money back

This is nothing to do with Marella, this is how the bank are processing the authorisation on your card. If you put a hold on a debit card or bank account, it leaves your account, then the real charge will be taken as well, once the hold expires, this is when it goes back on your debit card or current account. Only with a credit card will the authorisation turn into a transaction rather than it adding a separate transaction. Nothing to do with TUI or Marella, it's how the banking industry works. It would be the same if you used pay at the pump at a petrol station on a debit card. It also depends to a degree on your bank as well as they all deal with them differently and have different lengths of times in which they reverse authorisations or holds.

So better to use a credit card then?

Well, it's important to read entire contract and small print. I've read somewhere before that they put a freeze on a certain sum, especially if you use a debit card or bank account. On the way to start a cruise I received a text from my credit card that was attached to our cruise account that Carnival had put a freeze on $300. They used it to cover my charges. No problem with it.

Thanks for the info

Odd, not knowing how you and your friends booked, on most lines you have to specifically put others on your card for onboard expenses. As far as a freeze on your bank, usually it is the card that has the freeze, which if you only have one card could be an issue. And how is a bank freeze theft? You still make interest on the money.

Sorry about your experience. You may want to reach out to the cruise company about this complaint.

Sorry for your problems. Please know ONLY fellow cruisers read this. If you want people at the cruise line to read it, you will have to send it to them.

Not familiar with Marella Discovery2, other lines have more understandable procedures.
