Review summary

This was our first cruise with princess cruises, we usually like to go with P&O but heard that princess was a step up. Heard that the food was better than P&O, that was not so, the buffet on golden princess was disgusting it was like reheated up left overs. This was the first cruise I didn't put weight on so for that I am very grateful but I would rather have enjoyed the food. Having said that it was my only complaint, my almost 9 year old grand daughter who we took with us had a blast in the childrens areas. The staff looking after them were brilliant and kept them busy and happy with all their planned activities . our grand daughter spent most of the cruise doing crafts playing games and made lots of friends. The 3 swim pools were great so none of them were ever overcrowded.   The movies were reasonably current and plentiful both under the stars, in the theatre and in the staterooms. The staterooms are a bit tight, way smaller than any of the ships we have travelled on before and the shower was a nightmare, especially when trying to wash my grand daughters hair . There were a lot of people on the ship that would have a hard time fitting in the showers

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
dining room food was alright as was the specialty dining room but the buffet was disgusting

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5

Entertainment

5 out of 5
there was a good mixture of entertainment to suit everyone

Children's Programs

5 out of 5
I can't say enough about the children's programs only positive comments here. give them 10 /10

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
not one negative word against any of the staff or crew

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
it was a bit hard getting around, I was still getting lost on the last day

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
our stateroom steward was great and that is all the positive remarks I have to say for the tiny cabin. It was hard getting dressed with two adult let alone adding a child to the mix. There were lots of mirrors to try and make the cabin look larger but it didn't work

Ship tip

we are not big drinkers so decided not to go for the alcohol package Igot the mocktails package. happy hour was fun pay for one and you get the second one for $1 there are two happy hours a day.

we were disappointed in golden princess too would prefer Carnival or P&O it definitely is a older persons ship feel majority of passengers would be in late 70 up. ship needs alot of work blocked toilets leaks mattresses were replaced while we were on board . Enjoyed the ports New Guinea etc and still had a nice time buf not a fun ship

We were on the golden princess and eat in every possible location and had zero complaints about the food or in fact anything about the ship and its staff. My main complaints were fellow passengers 1-hogging the seats by the international cafe yet not eating or drinking. 2-some (very few) older people who had zero manners when it came to food (some behaved like they'd never eaten before, throwing kids and adults aside to get to a cream cake or warm toast)

Hi HMCK, thanks for that info. A bit disappointing as we'd booked our rooms due to their proximity to the aft pool after a princess consultant told us it was not adults only. Thank you for the up-to-date info :)

We've just come back and there is a sign that does say adults only on the aft pool. There is a kids pool and the other pools are kid friendly too. If it's any consolation - the aft pool is much colder!!!! Hope you enjoy your cruise.

Yes that is very confusing

sonjamerc    7 years ago

Thanks Des. I've spoken to princess consultants on the phone and they tell me it's for everyone but some travellers tell me it isn't. Very confusing!

debdoug    7 years ago

Its adults only pool i believe

sonjamerc    7 years ago

Hi, we're cruising on the Golden Princess next year and I keep getting confusing messages about which pool children are allowed to swim in. Was you grand daughter allowed in the aft pool?

The showers aren't for the short people either!
