Review summary

This review is for a privately chartered cruise on Explorer of the Seas that left on 12/08/2019. Though we only paid for the upgraded room and taxes, I wouldn't have minded paying full price for this experience. The ship itself, service on board, and a variety of entertainment and activities were all excellent. I am a big fan of this class of ship since the layout allows everyone to do their own thing without having 'too much' to get in with just a couple of sea days.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We enjoyed most meals in the Windjammer. Made to order omelettes were prepared in minutes, though there is a variety of delicious hot and cold food for all meals. Seating never seemed impossible and drinks were often filled by staff. We also enjoyed meals at the Chef's Table, Izumi, and Johnny Rocket's.

Johnny Rockets

5 out of 5

Excellent service and fun atmosphere with beautiful views from either inside or outside seating.

Izumi Hibachi & Sushi

4 out of 5

Excellent food and ambiance with a gorgeous view. Service was a little slow, but we didn't have anywhere to go since it was a sea day!

Chops Grille

5 out of 5

We enjoyed the Chef's Table inside of Chop's and another couple cruising with us raved about Chop's Grille itself.

Café Promenade

5 out of 5

Great food and drinks between meals (if needed). Conveniently opened periodically without overcrowding.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
The Explorer features many on-board activities including a FlowRider, sports court, pools, outdoor movies, hot tubs, fitness center, and more! Everything is well arranged to allow guests to separate and enjoy whatever their preference is.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Amazing music and entertainment on board. Midnight Avenue kept the Star Lounge lively on most evenings and the ice skaters are incredible.

Studio B

5 out of 5

Amazing performances with ample seating and timely bar service.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Frequently proactive service in every venue. Staff ensure that you feel welcomed and have everything you need. Our room attendant actually opened the door for us on several occasions- which is especially helpful when you have your hands full.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
This class of ship is large enough to offer plenty to do without being overwhelming or cumbersome to get around. Everything is incredibly clean, modern, and well maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
This junior suite had a friggin' walk in closet! It offers plenty of room for storage and lounging. Including the balcony space, you can comfortably have 6-8 people in the room. The room attendant kept everything clean. Even the bathroom seemed more spacious than the typical junior suite.

Ship tip

Pick an itinerary with at least 2 sea days to enjoy all the amenities on Explorer of the Seas.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

5 out of 5
Packed parking garage, but otherwise no issues.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Delayed exit due to the packed parking garage, but relatively smooth.
