Review summary

This is my first cruise with Royal Caribbean, Explorer of the Sea. Me and my husband will be sailing the Carnival cruiseline for now on. The food with Royal Caribbean is the same everyday at the Windjammer, the fun on this cruise ship is for an older crowd, nothing for kids if you bring your grandkids. The shuttles to downtown has a cost, not like Carnival which is free. To many hidden cost. No mid- night snacks places like the Carnival sandwiches, pizzas, etc. If you sick, you cannot see a doctor without paying $100 up front. More than half the passengers are older on budget, this don't make sense. The only positive was our cabin, we got a suite very roomy and comfortable. Carnival my family and I will see you soon for my granddaughter graduation cruise.

My family and I are Carnival cruisers. But, somehow, this time around we have booked Explorer of the Seas for our 9 day cruise starting December 27th 2019 to Southern Caribbean. We booked this because of the itinerary. We are following reviews closely and hoping not to be disappointed on our first Royal Caribbean cruise.

Let us all know which cruise you're going on so we know not to book the same one.

Every cruise line has it's good and bad. Nothing is perfect and whilst I love Explorer of the Seas cruise ship it doesn't have the atmosphere of the Carnival ships. I found that getting a waiter on the decks almost non existent on RCCL but always plenty on Carnival. I don't wait at bars with 20 people in front and not getting served when it's my turn as someone always pushes in front. The staff on Carnival help avoid this. Our grandies love Carnival better especially in the dining room at evening meal time. My biggest pet hate is there are no laundries on RCCL and with children that's a big thumbs down.

Cafe Promenade is open 24/7, that should cover midnight. But you should go where you are comfortable and used to.

I call Bullsh#t on this review. I have sailed on EOS several times with kids as well as on other cruise lines inc Carnival and RCCL have always been fantastic and the kids first choice when we plan. Service from RCCL staff is also outstanding with Glen being the best waiter I have ever had on any cruise line. Looking forward to sailing on EOS again after our next cruise on Ovation.

You should have researched the ship before you booked.

I don’t know what ship you were on but it doesn’t sound like the Explorer I know... first of all, other than Disney Royal has the best kids program at sea.... plus ice skating and no other cruise line has that... and there is always food available at the Royal promenade cafe... sandwiches and pizza and desserts... windjammer has every type of food known for breakfast so not sure what you are talking about there...plus you can go to DR and order your breakfast .. and the entertainment is second to none on Royal. Specially the Oasis and Quantum class.... Royal is a step or two above carnival... I have been cruising for over 30 years on every line and the best bang for the buck is Royal.. but you should like Carnival people and it would be better if you do stay with them...

I loved that ship. Went once but i know what u mean... Carnival is much more fun. There were many seniors. Rarely took elevator cause so many wheelchairs, walkers and ppl w canes waiting we just walked. Thought it was just the time of yr (early May)

Royal is much more geared towards a older crowd. Much more laid back.
