Review summary

This was our seventh Princess cruise, and the Dawn Princess turned out to be our least favorite ship. It was not the smallest ship we've been on, but their accommodation to being small just didn't work. For instance having the Sterling Steakhouse on the Balcony Grill at night was an awful experience. It was windy, noisy, chilly, the food was cold, the whole thing seemed rushed - which you didn't mind much because you weren't really relaxing and enjoying the experience. The movies under the stars playing near by loudly so you couldn't converse easily... just plain horrible. We took first time cruisers with us this trip who came away saying that they didn't know if they'd cruise again because they were bored. We've never been bored on a Princess ship before. Lectures were ok, but not of a huge variety and not very often. Fast food places not always available all day - would feel like a hamburger, but find the balcony grill closed for a buffet, or feel like a slice of pizza - oops, wrong time of day. Just not as comfortable and serving as other ships in the Princess fleet.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
I did not like having the one speciality dining area\, Sterling Steakhouse\, being on the deck. (See review) Did not like that other dining options such as balcony grill for burgers and hotdogs\, and the pizza place were not open for service all day light hours.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Entertainers were good and we enjoyed the evening entertainment alot. However\, we felt that the daytime could have offered more choices of lectures\, crafts\, etc. Boredom was a problem on this trip.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
usual quality of Princess service\, although I must say that the Horizon court service was not as quick or helpful as on other ships. On other ships\, they will help you find a seat\, here you are left to fend for yourself.

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
This was the smallest balcony stateroom we have had on a ship\, including a smaller ship. Our bathroom door didn't latch well and frequently came unlatched at night and would bang while we were trying to sleep

Pros: We really enjoyed the solar eclipse\, a once in a lifetime experience.

Cons: This ship's accomodation to being a smaller Princess ship just isn't working well.

Recommends Dawn Princess? No.
