Review summary

Overall we had a good impression of the ship. It was clean and in good repair. There was sufficient space and equipment for the passengers for a medium sized ship. Food was not up to the standards we expected. The entire crew was outstanding.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
This was one of the main disappointments for us. In the first week pasta dishes were dry and had insufficient sauces. This did improve considerably the second week. The selections on the dinner menu were very good and the portions were a bit on the big size. The wife and i always chose different items so we got a chance to try almost every item on the menu. The bread was hard. There is no other way to put it. We never got past one roll or slice at any meal except breakfast because the croissants were flakey. There were quite a few rice dishes and most were un-eatable! The rice was severely under cooked at all meals. The buffet restaurant was OK but many of the dishes lacked flavor that neither salt nor pepper could remedy or were overcooked. In the end we took most of our meals in the main dining room. One item of note was the beverage specials. We like wine with or meals and the package made it easy to indulge.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
We only attended one show and it was outstanding. However, the excursions we took left a lot to be desired. One of the problems was the limited information/specifics of the tours. For example, 7 hour tour: "We provide direct transportation to/from the resort." Actual: Bus takes long way around and stops 4-5 times to view "sights". This takes 1 1/4 hours for a 35 min drive. On the way back takes shorter route but stops in town to let people shop. Another hour wasted. A fuller description of the itinerary would have helped.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
There are no supperlatives high enough to describe the attentiveness, care, and swiftness to meet our every need, whim, or desire. And always with a big smile.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was clean and in good repair. The furnishings in the cabin and the common areas are of excellent quality and hold up well to the amount of use they get.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We were in a Mini-Suite and the only complaint was the refrigerator. It had to be replaced on the second day. We also found that if we left the cabinet door open so that heat did not build up within the cabinet, things actually got cold. The jacuzzi was used extensively.

Ports of call

Port Louis, Mauritius

5 out of 5
We did not stray far from the city center but there was a lot to see and enjoy in the area. We had a few meals and they were all very good.

Tamatave, Madagascar

Dirty, rutted streets. Taxi fares were exorbitant. Limited shopping. Beggers everywhere. However, the people we did interact with were friendly and helpful in providing information.
Don't Miss: None.

Nosy Be, Madagascar

Antsiranana (Diego Suarez), Madagascar

We went to two beaches and neither was paradise! Shopping was OK.

St. Denis, Reunion Island

The tour to the aquarium was good and afterwards the shopping and walking in town were excellent.

Victoria, Mahe, Seychelles

Pros: The crew! The entire staff went out of their way to meet our every desire.

Cons: The food and the excursions.

Recommends Costa neoRomantica? No.
