Review summary

Wonderful ship, crew, food, amenities. Enjoyed my time onboard ship. I will schedule my own vacations in future, enabling visits to places I want to go to, when I want to go there. Cruising does not allow sufficient personal flexibility (cancellation, refunds) when ship/company itinerary changes are contrary to my vacation desires.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Organized, very lengthy line, evidently short on personnel or stations to handle volume. It took over an hour to wind through the maze to board.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food is excellent. Main dining restaurants and Oceanview Cafe provide abundant choices. Did not use specialty restaurants. Purchased non-alcoholic drink package onboard, otherwise one gets nickel and dimed.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Behind Scenes ship tour; very interesting, though I feel a bit over-priced. Hot tub, sun by the pool, massages - all good. Shopped in the boutiques. Captain's briefing is excellent.

Entertainment

Not my thing...

Children's Programs

Don't have children.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Service excellent throughout. Laxman was excellent room steward, Aresh attentive waiter, I Kadek dedicated assistant waiter, Richard great sommelier. I chose to stay with table initiallly assigned; best for me as I was traveling alone and appreciated having small table to myself. Lovely couple next to me at table for two followed my same practice of sticking with assigned table.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Edge is a wonderful ship, excellent staff, well designed and maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Cabin very nice, only discomfort was mattress. Very hard. If cruising again, I would ask if softer topper is available.

Ports of call

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

4 out of 5
Flew in to Vancouver, airport transfer business very organized. Bussed to port. Security/onboarding process line very lengthy, as detailed above. Large volume onboarding 2 ships simultaneously. Lengthy wait time.

Astoria, Oregon

3 out of 5
Did not leave the ship.

Hilo, Hawaii

2 out of 5
Went ashore, walked through local farmer's market. Lunched at simple local spot. Took a locally offered short tour of local zoo, nut farm, candy factory, scenic park. Felt I had adequately explored available interests, stayed onboard ship second day.

Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

2 out of 5
Having visited Kona extensively in prior years, and as we anchored out from port, I chose to stay onboard ship for these 2 days.

Lahaina, Maui Did not visit port

Ship itinerary was changed, deleting scheduled overnight, 2 days in Maui. Replaced with additional day each in Hilo and Kona. VERY Disappointing, as I cancelled cruise on competing line, switched to this Celebrity Edge cruise Specifically Because of scheduled 2 days in Maui.

Honolulu, Oahu

3 out of 5
Plenty to do on Oahu, have been several times before. Always something to do. Disappointed for others who wanted to tour Arizona, Missouri, etc., and were not able to schedule within time allotted ashore.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
No issues.

Appreciate your feedback. Cruising isn’t for everyone, because of the reasons you mentioned. At least you tried it. Glad you had some enjoyable moments.

We took the Edge Hawaiian cruise May 1st and also were disappointed by the itinerary change. I can't believe they're still not going to Maui, but the ship itself was beautiful and the food was wonderful!
