We’ve done this cruise before so we were really just going for the sea days and to chill on the ship.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Retreat guests access via a private lounge which makes for a really relaxing process. They come to you with an iPad and check you in. Boarding time was 1100. Boarding started at 1115 and we were in our suite in minutes
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
I’d heard a lot of negative comments in recent months but Luminae was wonderful and an improvement over our last cruise on Reflection in April.
Speciality dining in Eden was superb.
The buffet has gone downhill. No two ways about it. We tried it for breakfast and lunch on a couple of days and it’s a hard pass from me
The staff are sensational. On a packed to capacity ship they still managed to remember our names.
Room service was fine but it’s been the same old menu for years.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
This is one of the things we didn’t like about Edge. There’s really not a lot to do. Aside from beanbag toss there weren’t many outdoor activities. We like the occasional competition to feed my fiercely competitive streak and it just wasn’t there. They don’t have the space of the other classes or ships that have the grass area so I do understand why.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
We went to see Kaleidoscope which was fine but nothing I’d ever want to see again.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
As always they are second to none. I don’t know how they do it but as long as they do, we’ll be back.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Impeccably clean with some interesting areas. It was booked to capacity but buffet aside (which felt like being at the airport) it never felt full.
Retreat Sun Deck is lovely but we missed having an actual bar a La Michael’s club. We weren’t a fan of the bars on Edge at all.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
Cabin was great though some signs of wear and tear on the sofa and it took a couple of days to get extra hangars. The chairs on the balcony are horribly uncomfortable. S1 Sky Suite lovely and spacious with ample room. Beds are hard but they can bring a topper.
We always do the catamaran to Nevis. It was incredibly windy so they couldn’t dock there so we went to a beach in St Kitts. Sadly the reef for the snorkel stop has really declined since we were last there three years ago and you can see how much the reef is dying.
Again Retreat class treatment is where Celebrity excels. We only travel with carry on and were first off the ship. Facial recognition in FLL speeds things up. We were at the airport by 0745 for a 1025 boarding.
