This cruise was ok, not the best, but we made the best of our time and really enjoyed the Chef's Table and our stops in Ocho Rios and Grand Cayman. Probably won't catch us on a Carnival Ship again.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Embarkation was quick and easy, we paid extra for the faster to the fun and it was worth it.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
The food was just ok, nothing spectacular. Service in the restaurant is friendly. Service at the buffet is the worst. The tables take forever to get cleaned. We had to eat at a dirty table, full of plates and drinks, because there was no where else to sit. In the 30 minutes we sat there, no one came to clear it.
We paid extra for the Chef's table experience. The food and service that night were spectacular. Top notch, well worth the money. Would do that again, in a heart beat.
We tried to eat all our meals at the restaurant to avoid the buffet area and the buffet lines.
Onboard Activities

Entertainment
3 out of 5
We heard the singers perform the first night and never went back to watch the shows. It was that bad. The comedy show was so raunchy we walked out. The live music around the ship was pleasant.
Service and Staff
3 out of 5
Our room steward was ok, but the room was very hot. We were sweating. and we paid for a balcony room that we couldn't even open the drapes to see outside because it would make the room even hotter. They would send maintenance and take the reading and say it was within the acceptable range for the rooms. 71-74. We are used to sleeping cold, at 68. We asked for a fan and there were none to give. That was really unpleasant.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
Things were clean, but not sparkling. A lot of visible rust. the windows on deck 5 by the bars were super dirty. Our stateroom was dusty. But overall, there was nothing disgustingly dirty.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
The cabin was dusty in some areas and ledges. The room was uncomfortably hot for us, but would measure within the normal range for Carnival, so they wouldn't do anything about it. We complained about 5-6 times. Nothing was done. We couldn't enjoy the view because opening our curtains meant the room would get hot. The size of the room was ok for two people. The bed is DEFINITELY not a KING SIZE bed. Probably a queen. two very narrow twin beds put together, which we knew, but we expected it to be wider.
The access to charing ports was good, especially with one by the bed. My husband uses a CPAP, there was no outlet near the bed. Only one outlet in the desk area so we had to ask for an extension cord that ran across the room to the bed. Tripping hazard at night, for sure.
Ship tip
Pay for the Chef's Table. Incredible Experience. Top quality food and service.
I've been on the Sunrise and enjoyed it. The bad thing thing about balcony rooms is the fact if you open the drapes the sun WILL HEAT the room. Just as it would in a hotel or at home. Thats to be expected. Sorry you had a bad experience but I wouldn't not cruise with Carnival just because you decided to cruise on an older ship and not a newer one. I too like to sleep in a cooler room that's why I learned to take a small fan. Happy cruising!!
