Review summary

My son and I sailed on the MS IMAGINATION (Carnival) on the 5 night western caribbean cruise from miami. It was our second cruise so we kind of knew what to expect. I thought the ship was very nice-spotless in every manner except for the waterline markings (seen on debarking only). The crew nearly fell over themselves to wait on you, and, somehow, the room was always clean but you never saw anyone clean it! Excellent service, great amenities like the 24/7 pizzeria which my son LOVED. The shows were excellent and a great variety. The comedian--gaucho's, juggler, ventriloguist and musicals were all professionally done with nice stage props. Sometimes I wonder where all that stuff is put---the dancers must have changed costumes 20 times during one show. overall a very pleasureable and recommendable cruise!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The sheer abundance of food and presentation were excellent. The dining room food was good--but obviously the mass production detracted from quality. Huge ice sculptures during the midnight buffet--don't miss it. Pizzaria was excellent--and open 24/7. The luncheon offerings in the Horizon Grill throuout the day were surprising varied and delicious. Perhaps better in quality than the dining room, although more basic.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Great shows. more props and fancy stages than one would expect on a ship. multiple show offerings were very nice. nice variety in shows. Went to most and liked all!

Children's Programs

Club 02, which is for teens was a hit for my son (17) as when dad was in the casino he could hang out with new friends. very nice. Once he just went in there to get out of the son and played cards and watched movies. Parents aren't allowed in--that was ok with me!

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
excellent, loved the european flare. Italian captain excellent.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Nice layout. Easy to get around after a day or two. Spotless. Everything always in its place.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Modern style stateroom, very nice, orderly. Excellent use of space. More electric plugs than in a normal hotel room. Excellent luggage and storage space with key card safe included--very nice. Nice bathroom-terrycloth robes offered in each room.

Ports of call

George Town, Grand Cayman

The best restaurant was MARGARITAVILLE. Excellent festive atmosphere, delicious jimmy buffet burger, and the patrons provided excellent entertainment as organized by a restaurant employee who suggested funny games and stunts---and who, by the way, poured free shots of tequila into your mouth if you were so inclined. Went snorking---but the snorkling on this side of the island seemed a bit commercial. not as many fish or fancy corals as i expected. Waiting for the bus after departing from the tender was a bit annoying. However, did see underwater ship wreck and coral/fish.

Ocho Rios, Jamaica

this place is plush and jungly, like the mountains in hawaii. The DUNN RIVER FALLS IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST!!!! We climbed up a slowly grading water falls 1000 feet! it was fabulous and visually stunning!! the falls originate in the mountains and go all the way down to the beach!
Don't Miss: dunn river falls

Pros: the shows, ports and sun, sun, sun

Cons: couldn't tour galley or bridge
