Review summary

I Cruise on a regular basis, so I have a number of cruise lines to compare against. Carnival used to be my favorite cruise line and they still do a fair job. This was a short cheap get away with my 40 year old daughter, who never cruised before. She thought the Cruise was wonderful and can't wait to book her own Cruise vacation.

The stateroom was typical, but no pillow chocolate/mint when the bed was turned down. Cabin Stewards were pleasant but I normally get to know them well, laugh and joke with them as we pass each other. Not this trip.

Formal Dinning is something I look forward to every evening. Getting to know your Wine Steward and Waiter is always nice.  I sat at my assigned table only once. I had to request my corked bottle of wine every night. My assigned waiter was very nice, but I only got to see him on Day 1. I was also disappointed by the dress code exceptions during formal dinning. People should to turned away if they have on shorts and swimwear. Proper dress is a part of the formal dinning experience and guest should respect the dress code and their fellow passenger. Also, what happened to my Lobster Dinner. I've never be on a Cruise ship without at less one Lobster or Prime Rib Dinner. Things change I guess.

I'm a Smoker and smoking is limited to one area, which is fine with me. I certainly want to annoy as few people as possible with my cigarette smoke. My problem was not with the Cigar or cigarette smokers, but rather the open use of Marijuana in the smoking area. I'm by far not a prude, but the last thing I want to smell is marijuana, especially when there are small children swimming in the pool not too far away. Staff just turned a blind eye to the Marijuana smokers and ignored the use. At least direct them to the rear of the ship where no passengers travel and the children would not be exposed to the smell.

I still love Carnival and the food was excellent even without the Lobster. Carnival Excursions are always a great way to see the port and experience something new and they are generally reasonably priced. Also, the quality of the amenities on a Carnival Ship are always much better then their Competitor, NCL, which I will not sail anymore. While this was not the most pleasant trip for me, I realize this was a cheap, short cruise that really catered to young people with families, not older travelers like myself.

Glad to hear that the weed was tolerated by the staff. Got to take my medicine.

Yes, you are paying for the cruise. But before you do, you know about the formal night, and still pay for it, then don't want to go along with it.

It is Hard to pack formal clothes because airlines charge so much for extra bags. We just got off the fantasy last week. I think semi formal is good enough. After all we are the ones paying for the cruise! I think the shows in the lounge were a little short and then they move them to the atrium? Not sure why? Wanted to sit and relax and watch a show. It was less than a half hour!

Wow i am in total disbelief regarding the drug usage. People should know that they could be arrested. OMG

Marijuana was also being smoked on deck 4. Smelled just like someone had smoked it in my cabin.

The thing is, you know that there is a formal night, book the cruise anyway, and then don't want to follow the rules. Or at least make an attempt. Entitled asses. That's the problem.

We like to dress up for elegant night it makes it special you don't have to wear a tux and ball gown but wear some slacks and a button up its not Pizza Hut it's one night if you don't want to you don't have to but got to the buffet i personally don't care what others do its not my problem there the ones that look out of place.

I think as far as dinner goes you should be dressed nice no bathing suits and at least collared shirt if you want to stay on bathing suit then eat at buffet

There is no such thing as formal night. I've been on Royal and don't dress up there either. Its not enforced for good reason. I paid for my cruise. I'll dress how I like. Say something to me and you're going to get a very loud GFY reply. Why anyone would care how someone dresses is beyond me.

That's carnival for ya. And as far as formal night goes, everyone knows there are formal nights and refuse to dress. If you don't want to dress nice for dinner go to the buffet or don't cruise.

Turn down for what?

They haven't done the chocolates on the pillow in quite awhile. And lobster is only on 5 day or loner cruises. That change happened about 6 months ago. Cruise elegant night is only once or twice depending on the length of the cruise. Personally I don't dress up either. Certainly not when on vacation. As for the dope smokers, I'd have took pictures and called security.
