Review summary
The Elation post-upgrade is a very nice, though smaller, ship. Our cabin E298 is a handicapped one and it is VERY LARGE for an inside cabin - easily enough room in there for two wheelchairs or even two scooters. The bathroom was very large and everything was very clean and comfortable. Even with the room being directly under the main stage we never heard a PEEP from any of the entertainment - and we were in the cabin during some of the shows. The Elation has Guy's Burger Joint and the Blue Iguana Café in addition to the regular dining venues - we didn't eat there on this trip as the re-designed buffet and main dining rooms kept us well fed! The updated décor is very nice and the ship is very clean and the great Carnival service remains the best! My main disappointment was the 'American Table' menu change in the main dining rooms - while the food is certainly delicious and the portions are actually larger than the previous menus afforded, the food is somewhat less adventurous. Yes, it was still delicious, but they've cut out the steak and lobster tail on Formal Night, and the selections are more bland. I did have plenty to eat and nice selection, however - and my sister, a first time cruiser, thought it was all fantastic, so I might just be a bit nostalgic. Carnival remains the best value for your cruise dollar, and the Elation, being a smaller ship, is just easier to navigate and has hardly any lines at all for the shows or the dining establishments. The Punchliner Comedy Club remains my favorite venue on the ships, and as I am older and handicapped, my main attraction to cruising is eating, napping, being entertained, and people watching - and stopping at the Punchliner every night after dinner! The pace of this ship is just my style - there's plenty for the more active crowd, and plenty for the more sedate among us, and the ship's layout actually provides adequate separation of the two. The four and five day cruises from Jacksonville that are the Elation's mainstay provide a quick getaway from Jax that you can squeeze in over long weekend and provide an excellent value for your short vacation dollar. I'm sure I'll be back several times over the next few years!Embarkation
