Our Amawaterways cruise was an incredible adventure. It was worth experiencing a river cruise versus an ocean cruise.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Excellent. We were able to drop off our luggage early and see Amsterdam sites
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
Both the main dining room, the bistro and Chef's table served excellent food. Wait staff was very attentive and the food superb. Definitely a 5 star quality. My husband wanted to take the coffee station home since it made the absolutely best hot chocolate.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
We enjoyed getting up in the morning and working out with the Fitness Instructor Tiago. In the afternoons we did a gentle one mile walk after lunch with him too.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
The trio playing classical music was our favorite. The pianist was good as well. Would have preferred that the solo guitarist played without the electronic background music. We prefer feeling like being in a concert hall than a bar.
Children's Programs
No children aboard.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Room stewards were great. Our room was always spotless. Flori and Vlad were exceptional in the dining room especially with keeping my food gluten free. The chef always had a gluten free dessert available for me. Elena was great with the excellent wines every night and she arranged to have soy milk available for me at the coffee station.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The layout was well designed. All the areas were spotless.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
The cabin was spacious and comfortable. The ability to open the sliding door to full width of the wall gave you an incredible view. It was like having a veranda.
Ship tip
Please take advantage of the diversity of shore excursions. The bike tours were just as great as the walking tours. The local guides for all the tours were exceptional.
Wow, wine tasting with ice wine was fantastic. Our wines were delivered directly to our cabin. The ship also served the Rudesheim coffee experience while we went thru the Rhine Gorge. The bartender Elena went the extra mile and made me a decaf version of Rudesheim coffee!
Both of us did the bike tour of the city with Bridgette. We got to see so much of the French city center as well as EU Parliment as well as the German section. Went back for lunch on the ship and spent the afternoon back at the city center doing our own walking tour.
Husband did the Alsace vineyard bike tour that included a stop at a local vineyard. He said it was his absolute favorite bike tour of all of them. I did the Frieburg walking tour. Love the local guides. Had absolute fun with the street market.
European River cruises are excellent for touring and seeing & experiencing different cultures and history. The biggest benefit being that all the passengers can be off and on an excursion within literally minutes of tying up.
