Review summary

Going into this cruise, we had no idea what to expect other than what we read in the brochure and online.  Overall we were completely blown away!  The cabins are nicely appointed.  We are were on Cello deck and had a balcony as well as french balcony.  Since it was December, I thought we wouldn't spend much time out there.  We were pleasantly surprised the weather was quite nice and it was great to sit out there in the morning and evening.  The room was nicely appointed with a good size shower, more like what you find in a boutique hotel.  There was plenty of closet and drawer space as well.  The best part and most memorable on-board was the food and service!  The soups were to die for!  Overall the food was fantastic at every meal with lots of local favorites and truly something for everyone!  The staff across all areas of the ship were superior with warm, friendly smiles and greeting us by name.  It always amazes me that they can remember our names.  The ports of call or should I say, stops along the river were interesting and a nice selection of shore excursions are included.  Again, there is truly something for everyone.  We are in our 40's and among the youngest on-board, but there were several families with kids mostly high school and college age.  I would highly recommend AMA Waterways to anyone interested in river cruising.  It's the right balance of luxury without being stuffy.  We can't wait to book our next river cruise on AMA!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Each meal was amazing and the quality of the food was superb.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Most activities are while docked and a nice selection of shore excursions at each stop. The port information prior to arrival was very helpful to determine what we wanted to do and see

Entertainment

5 out of 5
It's a river cruise, so not much entertainment is offered, but there is a lively piano player each evening that everyone enjoyed.

Children's Programs

No kids program offered

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Always a warm smile and friendly hello. The best service and staff we've had on any cruise!

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Clean and modern both inside and out. We saw several other river cruise boats during our trip and not once did we wish we were on another one. The boat is stunning both inside and out.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Nicely appointed with comfy bed and nice linens. The bathroom had a larger than expected shower (like a boutique hotel) rather than cruise ship. Lots of storage and closet/drawer space. The french balcony was nice to get some fresh air and we loved the regular balcony to sit and enjoy the morning and evening time.

Ship tip

Make sure you have a french balcony and/or full balcony - it's nice to have the fresh air and quiet space to enjoy the scenery.
