What hotel is near the cruise port that's cheap. Thinking about coming in a day before the cruise and do a tour and just relax so we don't have to rush and worry about missing the embarkation day

Port Everglades is very easy to get to from Miami international Airport by car. On a light traffic day it’s only around 40 minutes. I spent a couple of days in Miami before my cruise and then got up early on the day of departure and drove to the car rental drop off and then took the shuttle to the cruise terminal. This decision meant that I boarded the ship by 10.30 which was the earliest I’ve ever boarded. I did a similar thing when leaving and got the first debarkation time slot and was done in 15 minutes. So this experience going through Port Everglades was so much better than last year when it took nearly two hours to get through immigrations.

We stayed at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Ft. Lauderdale Airport & Cruise Port on Griffin Road. It was about 5 mins. from the airport and 5 mins. from the dock. They had a wonderful breakfast - lots to choose from. Very nice and clean hotel with great beds.

We loved our park and cruise company but Fort Lauderdale is not our cup of tea. ...we're not in Kansas anymore!!! That being said, it's one of the best places to embark from because it's relatively close to the islands we went to. Other embarkation ports that are farther away from Caribbean island would make the trip filled with way more "at sea" days/hours and less time at desired ports of call in many cases. We checked most of our luggage to make it easier and we were absolutely in good hands. TIP YOUR PORTERS! They work hard and are AWESOME.

I love Ft Lauderdale but I don’t think it should be included as one of the ports of call. It’s kinda silly that’s it included as a day of the trip. It’s not like they payed for my hotel room that I rented the night before.
