Our first penguin experience and it was fantastic, more than we could imagine. We were extremely close to the families, as close as we were allowed, but that is fine. Plenty of good pics for everyone. A little bit of a hill to climb and some could not make the entire trip. This is a very arid location so the burrowing Magellan penguins were the focal point and well worth it.

Did an excursion on our own for less than half the price the cruise ship was asking.

We had a private tour in Punta Arenas. We toured the city and then went to a museum that had replica ships of Magellan's Neo Victoria and the HMC Beagle. It also had replicas of Shackleton's ship Endeavor and the life boat he used to sail to Punta Arenas to get help.

Enjoyable tour with a privately-booked company, the highlight visiting the small museum containing replicas of HMS Beagle and one of Fernando Megallanes’ ships.

We visited a rain forest that we hiked through to see a waterfall and later enjoy a local dance and snacks with local wine.

Magdelena Island and the Penguin Reserve was why we were in Patagonia. An excellent excursion.
