If you decide to go-it-alone get a taxi to Khasab fort. The free shuttle drops you off by some poor shops.

As we entered the port, a military helicopter flew over the ship and the explosion of blasting for unseen roadworks caused immediate concern. The shops are filled with migrant workers selling much the same items one finds in the souks in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. After walking through the town and looking at the fort, we took the shuttle bus back to the ship. Total time from disembarkation to our return to the ship was 90 minutes.
