A trip to Australia just isn’t complete without a trip to the Bonorong Wildlife sanctuary. We took the excursion from the Sun Princess ship, which included the sanctuary and the little Georgian town of Richmond. The latter is a small settlement with the oldest Catholic Church in Australia, as well as great local crafts and wonderful food shops. They have frequent events on the Village Green - a vintage car show the day we were there. The former is the most spectacular place! We were able to see Kangaroos, Koalas, Tasmanian Devils, Wombats, and other creatures they are rehabilitating. Some will return to the wild while some will not. We fed Roos from our hands and got to pet the koalas. Truly a magical experience! The town of Hobart is also fantastic. There is a botanical garden, some older buildings and churches, a wharf area, and a market on certain days - truly not to be missed!

We visited Mt. Field National Park. The walk to Russell Falls was so tranquil and the falls were beautiful. Later we visited Meadowbank Estate Farm where we sampled their wines, watched sheep shearing and enjoyed a very delicious lunch with a glass of one of their wines. Before heading back to our ship, we made a stop at Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary where I fed the wallabies and photographed the Tasmanian devils and other animals there. If you use a wheelchair, it will be too difficult to maneuver the uneven surfaces in the sanctuary.

We didn’t go ashore due to the coronavirus, our captain Leotta was firm on not to allow any passenger ashore, next to us there was the Ruby Princess, and all the passenger were allowed to go ashore…… next day we found out that the Ruby had over 200 cases of the virus on board. We definitely need to thanks our captain for the wisdom to protect all the passenger.

We to a ships excursion to a wildlife park and Richmond Town. This was a good excursion with a lot to see from the bus. The wildlife rescue park, while the passion for what they do is undisputed I thought it was a bit dull really. Richmond, which is an early 1800’s Georgian town is fabulous and worthy of the praise it gets

Awesome place. Did a Shore Excursions excursion. Wonderful day. Fed kangaroos from our hands at a sanctuary for native animals. Also saw Tasmanian Devils in action - amazing experience!

Beautiful city, we did have issues with customs. I say we as in the whole ship, customs was very slow and delayed our excursion by almost an hour. This meant we didn't get as much time at Russell falls as we wanted or intended but the falls are beautiful and we saw a wild wallaby. Then we went to wine tasting and lunch followed by a sheep herding and shearing demo. We finished our afternoon at Bonorong wildlife sanctuary where we got to feed and pet kangaroos and see other native species of wildlife like Tasmanian Devils. A wonderful day overall.
