The port itself was ghetto and far from anything. Maui was great- did 2 excursions.

The Beach Day in Maui excursion was terrible. We were led through a beautiful hotel onto a very long flagstone path to the very end of the public beach. Chairs were very low and you were unable to lie down. An extra $25 (was not mentioned ) in the description of the excursion . The umbrellas were tattered and old. The bathroom was a cinder block filthy building with no one replacing toilet paper. The refreshments shack was not shaded and had one table. There wa no place to get out of the sun.

We did the volcano bike ride and loved it. We are older(I am 65 and my husband 74) and had no issues. However, this is not for the faint of heart. Our concierge told us that they have had one broken leg and one sprained arm this summer from that excursion. I always felt safe, the equipment was safe, but you need to know how to ride a bicycle on mountain roads.

Ship docks at an industrial port and it’s a walk to exit port. We had an overnight here with two full days to enjoy. Did the Best of Maui excursion the first day and it was just OK. Too much time at a plantation. On day 2, we got up at an ungodly hour for sunrise at Haleakala crater. Beautiful, but freezing cold and windy

We hired a taxi to give us a 3 hour tour of the island - roughly half the cost of getting on a big bus with 40 other cruisers. The high points were seeing sea turtles on the beach and walking to see the waterfalls.

Weather did not cooporate. All day overcast and light drizzle. Beach time was lost. Did lots of walking in very exclusive rossort and the bay.

We rented a car and drove the road to Hana at our leisure. We stopped at several locations and took as long as we wanted great trip.

Did the Road to Hana, could not get enough of how beautiful the coast and mountain are, so many waterfalls and things to see

Sunrise at Haleakala Crater - worth the early departure time. Port is not in an area I would consider “touristy”
