Kahului, Maui Port Reviews

I was very lucky to get a cloudless night and so I took a short, drive out to a point on the road to Lahaina, and got to see the Milky Way galaxy with my own eyes. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to see it on Kawai, which apparently has an even less obstructed view with less light pollution, but Maui was truly amazing, even with all of its light pollution.

We went to Haleakala NP. Sadly the weather didn’t cooperate so the views wasn’t the best. But the island is beautiful!

We sailed in January 2023, we did whale watching & Lahaina on your own the first day, then Maui's North Shore and waterfall walk. Whale watching was an awesome experience! Only let down on the North Shore excursion was we were not able to go to Ho'okipa Beach Park due to high swells of 20 feet. I was hoping to see the sea turtles there.

Best Maui Gold pineapple. It’s a must.

Gave Maui 4 stars because day 1, touring on our own was not the best in a rental car. We planned it well but lots of the places were not accessible. Lahaina was more a strip of commercialized stores than a historic district in our opinion. The huge Banyan Tree in the park was awesome. Day 2 we did the Road to Hana with Matias from Keep Simple Hawaii. Top notch and highly recommended. We initially were going to drive on our own, so glad we did not. Not only would the driver miss a lot but those in rentals, driving the road for the 1st time can cause lots of frustration for the locals. If you do decide to drive on your own, do your homework ahead of time and be courteous. If you have a car or 2 behind you, pull over and let them by. Be courteous to the locals. You are touring, they may be on the way to work.

Not a lot of fun unless you booked excursions and rented cars or paid money out to Lyfts or taxi drivers ,

Wish there was close by shopping.

Was not impressed with the part of island we were able to go. Did Road to Hana but be aware it is extremely difficult driving it.
