Caught the Unalena show on the first night. The excursion was booked through the cruise line and it was excellent. Rented a car for the second day. Rental rates were very reasonable. The road to Hana driving trip was exhilerating and very beautiful. I would not recommend this driving road trip for the inexperienced driver due to only two lanes the entire way, lots of blind (one lane) corners, and lots of steep uphill/downhill grades.

We were here for 2 days. The first day we rented a Mustang convertible and drove the road to Hana. First of all, it was fortunate for us that we rented the car ahead of our trip since there were none available for the passengers who waited. Secondly, I wish someone would have told us that there is NOTHING in Hana. It took us 2 hours to drive the 50 miles because it is very hazardous, but beautiful driving in the mountains. We stuck it out because we figured there must be a point to driving to Hana. We got there to find not even a good restaurant. We ate some really bad food and then drove 2 hours back. My suggestion is to drive partway to Hana to experience the road and then turn around after about a half hour and go back. Our second day we went to a luau at The Royal Lahaina Resort. We had heard that it was very authentic and better than the one supported by Norwegian. We were very disappointed. We paid $70. a piece and were herded into an area with about 500 people. Terrible food.

It would have been better to anchor off Lahaina and tender in. There was nothing close to the docking area.

Had another excursion mishap in Maui. We boarded our tour bus to go Whale Watching. We drove across the island to the pier and waited for our boat to arrive......and waited, and waited, and waited. I don't know what happened, or who's fault it was, but long story short, we never got to go Whale Watching. Instead, we spent three and a half hours on a bus, sitting and waiting. At one point, they thought we were going to be able to go on a later boat, so they took us to a nearby shopping center so we could at least get off the bus and use a restroom, but that other boat never materialized. Carnival obviously refunded us for the excursion, but I was still upset that my day in Maui was wasted. Carnival, to their credit, did give us an extra 30% refund off of another of our already booked excursions, so that was something at least. This was definitely the low-point of our trip.
